Trips are always well planned and resourced. Excellent and well planned itinerary with a good guide and camp/muleteers crew.

Trip was well organized and our guide, Matias, was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. He made sure we were all comfortable with the days plan and went above and beyond for the more needy people in our group.

Walking in the Balkan borderlands September 2024
Walking in the Balkan Borderlands
This was a very disappointing trip. The previous reviews had rated it so highly. Sadly we didn’t have the obviously excellent guide that previous groups had. The problems did not relate specifically to the guides however who did their best but did not have appear to have the backup and support from the company. The most significant issue was terrible accommodation on 3 nights out of the 7 with significant health and safety issues. The response from KE to feedback about the holiday was very def ensive but they did acknowledge the failings of the accommodation which they had not been aware of.
The walking was spectacular however and fortunately the group bonded well.

Thank you for your review Jane. As you point out, previous reviews rate this trip very highly and we are really sorry that you found your holiday to be disappointing. You have stated that we were 'defensive' in our private correspondence with you. However, following our investigation into your complaint, we apologised to you for the changes to your accommodation (which were caused by circumstances beyond our control), and we gave you an appropriate refund for these three nights. Your comments have been taken on board and we are confident that the reviews we receive from future trips will reflect all the others on this page.

An amazing unforgettable trek
Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
We have been on a number of KE holidays before, so know how well organised and fantastic they are, but this trek exceeded all expectations. From start to finish everything was well organised and arranged for everybody to have the best experience possible. The staff in the KE office were very helpful at answering our many pre trip queries. Our guide in Peru was Rudy Arqque ( assisted by Yoe) and we could not have asked for a better guide. His knowledge and passion for Incan culture shone through in everything he did. He worked so hard and was always smiling and good natured, as were all the support staff. The muleteers, led by Alfredo, did a fantastic job transporting all the kit, and setting up/packing up the camps each day , and we were reassured by the presence of an "emergency horse" following behind us on the the more tricky days ( even if nobody needed it!). The Kitchen team, led by chef Juan ,were incredible. We had plentiful, varied delicious and nutritious food provided on a regular basis, always beautifully presented. They even baked a celebration cake for us!

The actual trek itself was beautiful. I am glad we picked the longer route as it meant we could enjoy the quieter days at the beginning near Choquequirao, before the busyness of Machu Picchu. Our guide, Rudy, shortened the second day of the trek so we stayed at Marampata, before going to Choquequirao the next day. This meant we were fresher when we first encountered Choquequirao so were able to appreciate it more, and also the campsite at Marampata was much nicer than the one near Choquequirao that we would have otherwise spent two nights at.
There are some steep ascents and descents on rocky and dusty terrain, but good pacing by Rudy meant nothing felt unachievable. Similarly good pacing and plenty of rest on the higher altitude days meant that everyone coped well ( and we were an "older" group).
As well as the trekking there were also some unexpected extras- the chance to visit a local house to see how people live in the Andes, and a tour of a coffee plantation finished with tasting coffee that had been roasted and ground in front of us.

The scenery is beautiful, the Incan remains impressive, but it was the friendliness of the people that made me fall in love with Peru.

Culture and Trekking Combo
The Druk Path Trek
This was my 2nd KE tour and it met all my expectations and more. The trip had a balance of outdoor movement and inside culture. The only downside was there was a fair bit of vehicle travel. This was not unpleasant as the scenery varied as we travelled over mountain passes, small towns and pleasant fields of rice and other crops in a comfortable mini bus. The agent in Kathmandu was lacking at the beginning of our trek. He was a no show on the transfer to the airport and also we missed the pr omised bag breakfast. We mentioned to KE office and on the return there was a different efficient agent that met us at the airport. We did the September trip and glad to do the culture part first and the trekking at the end. Hotels were high standard and food again was plentiful and often buffet style with multiple choices. Our guides, Nima and Yeshi were exceptional.

On the trek we ate a full breakfast, hot lunch on the trail, and dinner with soup. All meals were very tasty and there was always as much as you could eat. Our group of 9 moved well together with only a small difference in the pace set by the guide to the slowest hiker. We had one afternoon of rain on the trail and rain over several nights. With good raingear it wasn’t an issue.

A bonus for us is that we added on the Chitwan Jungle experience. We stayed at Tiger Tops Lodge and had 3 days of activities from jeep safari and seeing rhinos up close in the wild, walking with elephants, feeding elephants, local village walk and more. Comfortable lodge with great food.

Highly recommend this KE adventure and add on.

My experience on 3 KE trips has been very positive. Our guide David was very caring of the tour group - wanted to make sure we all had the experience we wanted. Had a good sense of humour and engaged easily with all group members. Very knowledgeable about many subjects

AMALFI TRAIL
Trails of the Amalfi Coast
One word would be sufficient - fantastic! However, there is a lot more to add, so here goes!

First of all, our guide Giovanni; he was brilliant, very knowledgeable in the history, the nature and the people. He also knew the routes where the masses very often didn’t walk!

The hotel was adequate, good food and pleasant staff. It was also very convenient particularly for the final walk along the path of the gods that started almost on the doorstep of the hotel. Every
day was varied with beautiful scenic walks along quite a stretch of the coastline. Needless to say, the area is magnificent.
Amalfi is quite pretty but extremely busy and catching the public bus is a test in itself. Also, disregard anything you may have experienced with regard to driving, you’ll most likely have your eyes firmly shut for most of the ride from Amalfi to Bomerano.

We were treated to some excellent hospitality along the way, fine food, good wine to sample and a welcome ice-cold beer (peroni) from time-to-time! The week was broken by our ‘free’ day on the Wednesday when we split up with one on a long trip to the coast to swim, some on the trip to Capri, others taking the opportunity to experience a cookery class back in St Lazaro.
Pompeii was very busy but well-worth the trip as was Vesuvius in the afternoon.

All-in-all, my opinion is that the final day, the path of the gods, starting at the hotel and finishing in Positano was the highlight with the ferry for the return. Positano is the multi-coloured backdrop that we often see to highlight the Amalfi coast and it really is lovely. However, as you would expect, it is busy.

We were lucky, I suppose, as the weather couldn’t have been better, the guide (Giovanni) was the best and the small group gelled very well and no blood was spilled throughout the whole week.
A trip I would recommend to anyone although I would add that you do have to have a reasonable level of fitness as there are many, many steps to overcome, both up and down!

Well done KE Adventure.

The holiday was everything and more than I could hope for. Friendly company service from the start of booking to going. Easy transits and completely taken care of during our time in Italy. Giovanni, went over and above to make the hiking enjoyable for all. He set the pace to suit the group and we were all surprised how much we achieved. He was knowledgeable, interesting and passionate about the walk, explaining both the history geographically and all local plants. He found great out of the way p laces to visit away from crowds and introduced us to amazing restaurants and people. Bravo!

Everything was exceptional!
The Druk Path Trek
KE does an excellent job with planning amazing journeys. I have used KE for 4 trips over the years. All of them have been outstanding covering all the details for a safe, enjoyable experience. The staff is great to work with answering all questions. The guides are amazing, very knowledgeable and always available and willing to help in any way. You are the best.

Everything was exceptional! The tents were nice and roomy. It rained a few nights. We were kept nice and dry. The food w
as amazing, very good. Hot meals, fresh fruit and vegetables. Always had more then what we needed. The support team always had hand sanitizer available and hot water available. The support team was so good, so kind, so helpful. They were the best!

Nima was one of the best tour leaders I have encountered. He was so sincere, knowledgeable and a wonderful ambassador for Bhutan. He was always checking on all of us to make sure we felt fine and to see if we needed anything. He was always right there to help with bags, food, everything. He was so informative about the history of his country. He was especially helpful to me, carrying my water bottle and there to hold my hand as we crossed wet, slippery rocks. Yeshi Letho was also an amazing guide. He, too, was one of the best guides, very sincere, knowledgeable, caring.

Nepal, Bhutan and Chitwan extension
Highlights of Nepal and Bhutan

An excellent trip with a full and varied itinerary. Plenty opportunities for walking, temples and monasteries, then rounded off perfectly with rhinos and elephants in Chitwan. Highlights were: unexpectedly getting to see the ladies taking part in the Teej festival at Pashupatinath, sunrise over the Annapurna range, seeing Everest from the air, everything about Bhutan (but especially the Tiger’s Nest monastery), seeing elephants and rhinos close up in Chitwan.

Let The Muses Speak!
Sacred Summits of Olympus and Meteora

I never knew Greece had so many rocks! This was a wonderful week from start to finish with good food (limited options in the huts), beautiful accommodations, the hut "experience," excellent views and interesting sites, a dip in the Aegean Sea and a challenging rock scramble in a friendly and welcoming country. Our professional guide, Ivo, was with us throughout and provided his expertise and watchful eye assuring our safety and enjoyment at every step.

Tolga was excellent guide. Very professional and experienced. He had done a lot of research & was very knowledgeable about the history of places we visited. Could identify various birds bushes trees etc. Was very attentive ensuring the pace was suitable for everyone. He was very organised with times /transport/ hotels and inspired the group with confidence. He explained the itinerary clearly and repeated so we all were all aware of what to expect on each day of walk and he handled everything efficiently. An amazing guide who acted to the highest standards. Highlights: Staying in rustic log cabins with outdoor seating. And the food in all locations

The perfect way to see Madeira
Walking in Madeira
This was my first walking holiday and I absolutely loved it. It was a great way to see Madeira, as we travelled to a few areas of the island. I loved the variety of walks, and how we got to see the different landscapes of the island.
Andre, our own personal tour guide and mountain guide, made this trip for us. It was enriching to learn about the island from an authentic Madeiran voice. His passion for the environment, care and responsibility for the group, and sense of humour were brilli
ant.
I would say, however, that the walks at times would warrant this trip being more deserving of a rating of 4 rather than 3, as there were some parts with steep declines and many steps.
We also didn’t love the packed lunches, but managed anyway.
The accommodation was satisfactory, we especially liked the guesthouse in Jardim do Mar. The highlights for me were the Pivo Ruivo hike, and the Porto Moniz natural swimming pools.
Overall, this was an amazing trip, and Andre was the best guide we could have had :) Obrigada Andre and KE

Utterly brilliant guide. Top professional but also caring as a person. Lea the other guide was wonderful, a brilliantly supportive guide who really cares. Excellent company too. A lovely country with perfect walking and a superb hotel that felt way more than 3 star in many ways. We had to adapt our itinerary because of unexpected weather but Ales and Lea both did this thoughtfully

Camels on the Beach
Camels on the Beach Family Morocco Holiday

We found the holiday a relaxing, interesting and stimulating week. Just what we needed after climbing Toubkal the week before, the food was amazing, the guide Lashan - was brilliant, always there, engaged, seemed like we were all there on holiday together, the thing ran like clock work, tea in the Berber village was the right point, so nice to meet people who really seemed pleased to see us. The guest house was stunning.
