Adventures in Guatamala
Guatemala's Magnificent Seven

Highlights include being part of a small guided group of like minded people, fantastic hikes and scenery, and of course, Volcan Fuego.
I have trekked with KE several times and never been disappointed. The treks are well organised with excellent guides and back up teams. Nothing is too much trouble.

Lots of Interesting Things to See
Red Hot Chile Trekkers - The Atacama Desert
This really ended up being two trips in one. The first is a series of day hikes from San Pedro de Atacama on the Chilean side of the border to see some incredible sights. The second is a very tough trekking summit climb on the Bolivian side of the border, for which the previous six days of day hikes were insufficient acclimatization. The peak is over 5900m above sea level, and in the six days on the Chilean side, we reached 4000m on one day and slept at 2500m (in San Pedro) each night. The ... group consisted of many very experienced and highly capable walkers/climbers, and only six decided to attempt the summit day (three succeeded). The trip would have been better if we had attempted an easier summit on the Chilean side, of which there are plenty, or simply create two trips (one for day hikes/sightseeing and one more difficult one for trekking and climbing Licancabur in Bolivia with proper acclimatization).

Overall, I still enjoyed it. The sights are incredible (see photos).

Wonderful Kerala
Kerala and the Cardamom Hills
The level of the trip was perfect for me, some walking was tricky but the leader always managed to keep the group together. Each activity was interesting and a great overall experience of Kerala. Going from place to place involved quite a bit of driving but there was always interesting things to look at along the way. I don't think we would have experienced as much without the different venues. The comfort of the bus and hotels was brilliant and the very bumpy jeep ride was very exciting. The ... leader made well-considered adjustments which were perfect for our group. Big thanks to the rest of the group who were fun and ready to join in with all activities.

Excellent trek
Walking Holiday on the Captivating Cape Verde Islands

A highlight was the ascent of Pico de Fogo and the scree descent, which I was dreading but was fun.
Also trekking in the mountains - the balcony walk was truly amazing and seeing the terraced farming and lush valleys.

Amazing experience
Cape Town to Victoria Falls Camping Safari

Climbing up the dunes at Sossusvlei, sunset amongst the rock formations of Spitzkoppe, the wildlife at Etosha National Park, canoeing through the Okavango Delta, and best of all swimming in the Devil's Pool on the brink of Victoria Falls.

Fantastic first trip to Nepal
Ganesh Himal Panorama Trek

Gansh Himal was an amazing first trip to Nepal, everyday you could see the Ganesh Himal mountains becoming clearer until you could see the whole range in one go. There are a couple of stiff days, especially the 1500m descent on day 4 of the trek.

Kerala and the Cardamom Hills
Kerala and the Cardamom Hills
Content was very good and true to description. The leader, Sen, made a few executive decisions, after consultation, that really improved the trip.
It would have been nice if there could have been time for a further walk in the mountains but I don't know what I would have changed to include this.
Hotels and accommodation was first class. All the guides and chefs were fantastic, the food was amazing, though I didn't really go for curry for breakfast but there was always choice.
The trip was
... enhanced by the group we travelled with a great team.

Interesting but not as I expected
Mount Toubkal in Winter
After reading the many reviews about this trip it seemed to fit the bill for me as an experienced UK hiker looking for altitude experience. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I developed altitude sickness on the way to the refuge but was advised to continue up to the summit. This was poor advice from our guide (who was otherwise ok). Due to lack of confidence in this support and on-going altitude concerns I decided not to summit. There was a fatality within another group whilst we were at the ... refuge which I mention purely out of respect for the victim. Be aware that any trip at this altitude and in winter carries risks, however infrequent. KE are a good operator but need to be closer to their team on the ground.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review Claire. As mentioned in our private correspondence with you, we were very sorry that you were unable to attempt the summit due to illness. Your guide was a very experienced mountain leader, well versed in the recognition and treatment of altitude related issues. You are right to point out that adventure travel is not without risk and it is always best to minimise that risk by choosing an experienced tour operator, using trained and qualified mountain leaders.
