A challenging week on the Lofoton Islands
Walking the Wild and Untamed Lofoten Islands

An amazing location for a walking holiday especially if the weather is kind. We had a lot of rain and even snow which made the paths slippery. This didn't detract too much from the amazing locations. Soaring mountains rising straight out of the sea, pristine beaches and abundant wild flowers. The two young Norwegian guides did everything and more to make our trip enjoyable.

Great walks, great guide, well organised and with good accomodation and food
Trekking the Ridges & Summits of Bulgaria
The guide was excellent, he maintained a slow pace, with very short steps, especially on the steepest assents and it's worth noting that if you are directly following the guide you will use less energy. The walk is graded 6, i.e. suitable for fit weekend hill walkers, which I think is fair and in fact, given the slow pace of the guide, no walk is harder than the assent of Snowdon, or Helvellyn, but the days can be much longer (8-9 hours). Having said that, there are a few sections of boulde r fields and some scrambles where you need you to be very careful. I would say walking poles, or at least one pole, are essential, unless you are extremely agile and fit. There is always the risk of thunderstorms and lots of wide steams to cross, so for dry feet, waterproof boots are the best option.

A really excellent trip, simple walking, great scenery and excellent local guide
Footpaths and Flavours of Croatia
The local guide and operator were excellent. The walking is very straight forward but some days are quite long, eg. 28 kms. I understand that clients frequently do not complete this distance, but in any event they arranged minibus pick-up for those who wanted something shorter. Our trip was at the end of June when the heat had become a real problem, and I think April or May would be a better time. Accommodation was good and the food in Istria is not to be missed with Truffle dishes available eve rywhere at sensible prices.

The trek to the Concordia was one of a special kind
K2, Concordia and the Gondogoro La

The trek was very well organized and well thought out, especially with regard to the contingency days - which we all had to make use of due to the weather conditions. A crossing of the Gondogoro La was not possible due to the heavy snowfalls and avalanche danger. I think that didn't spoil the trip - the breathtaking Concordia compensated for everything (very good view on the K2, Broad Peak and G4). - Many thanks again to Mohammed Khan and Andy Chapman.

Good value enjoyable trip
Walking the Albanian Alps

Bledi our trek leader was excellent. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Although this trip is graded five, i found the walking to be demanding with some long ascents. It was extremely hot in Tirana for the short time we were there at the airport. Once up in the mountains it was still hot on occasions but not uncomfortably hot for walking (end of June). No one had any medical problems and it was possible to use water from natural water sources in the mountains.

Recommend!
K2, Concordia and the Gondogoro La
This was a beautiful trip. I recommend it. We had some bad weather so we couldn't make it over the pass and had to double back, but obviously this is not KE's fault and everyone was mentioning how rare it was to have so much snow. Good: Guides were excellent and the itinerary was outstanding. This is truly a beautiful place. The crew was outstanding and helpful. Things to be aware of (neither good nor bad) 1. There are very limited places to stop and camp. Therefore if the camping spot s are somewhat crowded as there is really no other place to be. Any expedition for K2 or Broad Peak really has to be up that valley. For some, this was an added bonus as they got to have conversations with people that were trying to summit K2 they found it interesting. For others, it was a little loud and busy at the campsites. For me, it was sort of irrelevant and didn't add or detract. Again, nothing can really be done about it either way as the spots are very limited. 2. They brought "fresh meat" with them (chickens, goats) that were slaughtered along the way for food. This was not a problem for me as I am not a vegetarian and on other trips the crew bought live animals along the way for food. For some, this was disturbing. Neither good nor bad, but something to be prepared for as you might be hiking with your dinner... Why not "5 stars" 1. The "fly in" hotel in Islamabad was not good at all. We ended up not staying there it was so poor we got (and paid for) rooms somewhere else. I certainly did not expect the four seasons, but we have done many (about a dozen) trips like this with many companies (including previously with KE) and it was the worst first and last night hotel we have ever seen. The hotel in Skardu is about what you would expect, but there are much nicer and reasonably priced options in Islamabad. Additionally, before we went, we asked KE for an additional night and airport pick up a day early, and they wanted to charge us well over double what it cost to stay at a gorgeous hotel with wonderful restaurants a workout facility and a pool. After the trek, most of the people came to our hotel. 2. The food was poor. It was certainly acceptable and edible, but it was literally the same thing every day for 15 days, and almost all carbs. In treks, you don't expect a fine dining experience, but in our experience on many of these treks including some in the Himalayas, as well as Andes and other places it was probably the worst we have had.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed the trek to Concordia, undoubtedly one of the most sensational locations on the planet! We are sorry you did not like the hotel in Islamabad. The majority of KE clients and leaders, as well as the two members of our Keswick office staff staying here at the same time as your group, like this hotel. We know it cannot compare to the five-star international hotel you chose to stay in, but if we were to accommodate the group there, this would inflate the price of the holiday out of all proportion to the added benefit.

Off the beaten track with jaw dropping scenery
Walking the Albanian Alps

An excellent walking trip. The food was delicious throughout. Bledi was a great guide with lots of local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble for him. The accommodation was quirky and fun and the camp fire every night after dinner was brilliant. The walks were steep at times and rocky underfoot, but taking it steady we all coped with it well and it was well worth the effort to see those jaw dropping views. Will definitely return to Albania in the near future.

All Good
Walking the Wild and Untamed Lofoten Islands

Accommodation good Food good Itinerary good Guides good Group good But the weather was not good; so an average of good, not great. My tip is to pack for very cold, wet weather at any time of year.

Brilliant views, impressive trek!
One Week Mount Toubkal Trek

I did the 1 week Mount Toubkal trek in June, and found it to be fairly long days at our group's walking pace, but early starts meant avoiding much of the heat of the day and some time to relax in the evenings. The views were absolutely amazing, and I'd highly recommend!

A hard but enjoyable trip!
Gran Paradiso Weekend
It took us two attempts and use of the contingency day to make it to the summit of Gran Paradiso but what a summit day it proved to be. Beaten back by the weather on Saturday mornings attempt we retreated all the way back down to the valley and then back up to hut number two The Chabod to try again on Sunday. Eventually at the second attempt we achieved the summit 4061m. Thanks to our guide insisting on an early start we were rewarded with a summit to ourselves having beaten the masses. The view s were sublime and the mountain adventure was full-on!

An absolutely fabulous trek!
The Inca Trail and Beyond
The Inca Trail & Beyond was a truly fantastic experience. Our guide, Henry was so passionate about the mountains and Inca history that it was impossible not to feel drawn in to the atmosphere that he created. Every day was magical. Stunning scenery, camping in such beautiful locations and the food prepared by our amazing chef was incredible. After 7 days trekking to arrive at Machu Picchu, such an astonishing place was the icing on the cake. No wonder its classed as one of the seven wond ers of the world! This trip should definitely be on everyone's bucket list.

Lovely walking, hugely welcoming
Through the Heart of the Balkans

The walks were very good, often with magnificent views. Green and lush, meadows full of flowers. Lots of interesting information about the history and culture of the region from the guide. Warm and sunny weather often turned into thunder and rain in the afternoon; waterproof gear definitely needed. Very welcoming everywhere. Great guide, great driver!

Good combination of trekking and sightseeing
Vietnam from North to South
This was a really enjoyable trip. We covered all of the main sights with a good variety of activity. Some long days of travelling which became somewhat tiring, but everything was as described. We travelled in November 2018 and would definitely use KE Adventure again (in fact I was reminded to write this review when looking at booking our next trip!) The trekking was the highlight. I was nervous about this as it was our first trek (although we walk regularly) but we found it well within our capab ilities. The guide (Lun?) was exceptional, especially in rearranging accommodation when heavy rain meant that we couldn't reach the intended homestay. The homestay facilities were basic but really enjoyable. Throughout the trip the food was outstanding - really delicious and HUGE amounts of it. On the occasions when meals were not included, we generally just had a snack because we were so full from the previous meals. We generally had set menus where everyone helped themselves to a variety of dishes, which worked well and saved lots of time. My partner is vegetarian and ate very well (many of the group were jealous of his meals!). The only slight issues were around communication. It took some investigation on the first evening to find out where and when the group was meeting, then the guide was not aware that there was a vegetarian in the group, Our guide got things sorted quickly; however it was all a bit unsettling having just stepped off a long flight. But this was a very minor blip and the rest of the holiday ran very smoothly. Overall, a trip that I would highly recommend.

Father and daughter adventure of a lifetime. Thank you, KE!
Everest Base Camp Trek
My father and I participated in the Trek to Everest Base Camp with KE Adventure, travelling in May, 2019. While the trek itself was challenging (and rewarding!), KE saw to our needs throughout the entire experience with professionalism and enthusiasm. We had one lead guide and 3 assistant guides; with 10 travelers in our group this was about 1 guide per 3 travelers. Many things stand out about the company but I wanted to highlight a few that really helped make our trip a good experience. Accommo dations - KE chose clean and comfortable accommodations. We stayed in a luxury hotel in Kathmandu with meal services included. On the mountain, we stayed in mountain lodges ("teahouses") throughout. Rooms were shared twin beds, which came with a mattress and duvet. A sleeping bag is recommended for warmth but otherwise it was incredibly comfortable to have a room to yourself and a partner. They do not do mixed gender rooms so I shared with another woman on our trek and my dad shared with another man. Bathrooms varied in quality - few toilets are flush on the mountains but our guides were always helpful in pointing out toilets and always had hand sanitizer at the ready for us prior to meals! Meals - My father and I follow a vegan diet and the KE guides were very helpful in pointing out vegetarian/vegan options and even going out of their way to create meals for us out of the ingredients available up at 4000 m! For each meal you could order off the menu at the tea houses; KE included breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as afternoon tea. The guides also filled up our water bottles for us so we did not have to purify our water. Meals were always delivered on time, and of high quality. We were served by our assistant guides who worked with speed and professionalism. Yaks - Our larger bags were carried by yaks accompanied by a Yak guide. This was reliable - one day the yaks could not cross the passage and our assistant guides carried our essentials for us on their backs until we could reunite with the yaks. The animals were treated with care and our bags always arrived on time. Safety - The guides were well trained in mountain safety. Our group was very eager and enthusiastic to climb but they managed to curb our enthusiasm and ensure we did not climb too fast. While this made for some slower early days, we appreciated it when we got to higher altitude without being ill. The guides watched for the safety and health of each individual climber and adjusted the schedule and pacing depending on how the group was doing. I always felt safe and looked after; I knew I could ask questions if I had any, and many other travelers used medications/first aid as needed. We also had our own driver in Kathmandu and our guide stayed with us during flights/travel to ensure safety at all times. It is clear that KE has been running this trip for several years and has gained experience in what tends to help clients be successful. We all wanted to reach basecamp and by taking it slow and guiding us appropriately, we did it! Overall, we had an incredibly memorable experience and appreciate KE providing support ahead of, during, and after the trip. There were some hiccups, but KE did its best to address it. Ahead of the trip for example, we learned that our itinerary had to change due to an airport closure. KE communicated this by email and created an alternative plan. During the trip, my father lost his luggage (delayed during a layover) - the KE guides had it delivered to us all the way in Namche Bazar! They took on duties as needed to make our stay comfortable. Finally, after the trek, we and the others in our group were interested in exploring Kathmandu. Our guide arranged for a driver to take us to 3 temples and do a driving tour. Thus, throughout our entire stay the KE guides "took us under their wing" and helped us to immerse ourselves in the Nepali culture and way of life. Thank you KE for helping us fulfill our dream of reaching basecamp. We would definitely recommend travelling with you to other friends and for anyone else who wants to challenge themselves with a big adventure - YOU have to do the climbing and put in the hard work, but KE will take care of everything else :D.
