Hiking, Culture, Sea and Sun
Mountain Trails of Lebanon
Lebanon will change your opinion and perception that you may have of the country and Beirut, the people and the food. The LMT (Lebanese Mountain Trail) is supported by locals who truly believe in their country, the landscape and what it can offer and how far you can explore. You will discover a mixture of terrains - forests, valleys, mountains, trails and more. Experiencing ancient ruins in Baalbeck, Byblos and across Beirut, to wine tasting, discovering stalagmite and stalactite in Jeita caves, watching sunsets in places you couldn't have imagined. Highly recommend the trip.

Successful multi generational family trip
Multi-activity Family Adventure in Poland - Sadauckas

Tour was nice, hotel were average, pillows were aweful and Zakopane hotel would not turn heat on until 10/1 regardless of temps in the 30s. The biggest issue we had was the trail hike. The description was poorly described. We had ages 5-78, and the rocky terrain made the hike very slow and difficult for many. It took us 6.5 hours, it rained, snowed and we had to cut the distance short. Not a trail path in the mountains, many rocks/steps of varying size to climb both up and down.

Our Tanzanian Big Five
Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route
1. World's highest free standing mountain 2.World's largest volcanic caldera 3.World's largest land animal 4. World's largest bird 5.World's fastest land animal. Organisation flawless. The trek via the Lemosho route was stunning. The guides were professional and compassionate. Emanuel is a delightful lead guide as were his aids, Baraka and Clement and his fantastic team of porters. One big family adventure! All crew were caring and supportive of our group's needs. F ood was excellent and plenty of it. Perhaps still take a few snacks for during the day. The trek is made difficult by altitude not the terrain. Although I didn't have any, Diamox seemed to help those who did, so would recommend this as well as a supply of paracetamol/ibuprofen. The kit list is spot on. Our group blended superbly, everyone encouraging each other to achieve 100 % summit success. Three of us booked the follow on safari to Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire NPs. Each was amazing. Our guide, David, was excellent and allowed us more than perhaps his allocated time to view the splendid array of wildlife. The bird life is especially impressive. Our list exceeded 70 identified birds, and we are not dedicated ornithologists. Have some super photos birds, animals and flowers, including the very local 'impatiens kilimanjari' or elephant's trunk flower. The safari lodge accomodation was excellent and well within character for the location. Trip notes for the trip are very accurate, read them well. a 10/10 trip from KE again.

Wonderful walking through scenery that rivals anywhere in the world
Through the Heart of the Balkans
This was a very enjoyable trip with a group of 7. Grading is correct - the distances are not great and suitable for anyone who walks regularly. I was very glad I had poles with me as there are some steep downhills- particularly on day 4, where you have steep wooded downhill for around 4 km. The accommodation was varied; the hotel in Podgorica was the least exciting. The eco village accommodation in Katun Stavna was basic but fine - 4 women shared and there was a shower. The shepherds hut stay wa s fun - 3 women downstairs and 2 men in the loft. There is a good shower and toilet unit there and we had our luggage with us on all nights. Transport was a bit cramped in a mini bus with an excellent and helpful driver Ivan. There are quite a few 2-3 hour transfers but this does enable you to see a range of places and scenery. We saw a few Griffon vultures at the Uvac canyon. On the last day, for various reasons, we did not do the planned Bear Circuit but did a lovely walk to up above the Black Lake. The significant downside of the trip was our guide Michael. I am mystified by the good reviews from previous trips as our group found him detached and disinterested in the trip and group. He did not seem to enjoy his job and, on several occasions, seemed irritated with some of the decisions the group made, like stopping for a drink at the end of a walk. group

Stunning beautiful Albania
Walking the Albanian Alps

Excellent walking holiday with good group follow walkers. Our guide Erenik was fantastic , very knowledgeable and passionate about all Albania. The walks can be steep , but if you're used to walking Munros you'll manage, walking poles advised as loose dusty rocky paths under foot. Guest houses fine, food good and plentiful . Just go before Albania becomes busy, you wont regret going to this beautiful mountainous country.

Natural Wonders, Ancient Culture And Great Food
Mountain Trails of Lebanon
This holiday gives a great mix of walking, natural wonders and ancient culture in a single week. Being a small country (about the size of Wales) I can't claim the walking is wild and remote. But the walks take you to a range of terrain and the Qadisha Valley is a definite highlight. What I really enjoyed about this trip was the mix of experiences: as well as the walking, you have wine tasting, guided tours of ancient cities (I loved the souks of Sidon), amazing Roman ruins and natural wonde rs (although a mainstream local attraction, Jeita Grotto has to be seen to be believed). On top of that, there is the delicious food. Thoroughly recommended.

Some wonderful coastal walks, excellent food, excellent hosts, and a great free day
Timeless Trails of Portugal's Algarve
Lovely, well-led, coastal walking, and excellent food (including the best tomatoes I have ever tasted) from our hosts Jonathan and Violetta. We stayed in Eco-friendly lodges located within their own 150 acres of farm and woodland (do take a headtorch). Their dogs came with us on most of our walks, and even waited for us outside the restaurant on our evening out on our own. On our free day we were taken out to sea on a speedboat and went swimming (in wetsuits) in caves. We also had (previously) a number of swims in the sea, and, in my case, a bodysurfing lesson from Jonathan, who has 40 years experience of such things. It did rain on one day, so do take waterproofs with you.

A great week in the Picos de Europa
Traverse of the Picos de Europa
What a surprisingly beautiful area to visit. The Picos de Europa really are a sight to behold. The mountains are majestic with stunning views and cloud inversions. Our accommodation was very good and the plentiful supply of hearty food was just what was required after a hard day on the hill. Our group was very international, a group of very friendly people who all liked to walk at a healthy pace......no stragglers with this lot ! Apart from the above what really made this trip a success was our excellent guide Rosana. She was extremely capable and easily managed a large group. Her local knowledge was always on tap and she made sure every detail was followed and every need seen to. I really can’t praise her enough. If you are doing this trip you should be prepared for long days with plenty of big hills to climb. The only place we saw people in numbers was at the obviously popular Cares Gorge. This didn’t detract from an excellent walk along it. Summiting Torre de los Horcados Rojos (2500m), via Collado Horcadas Rojos was for me the highlight of the trip. The scrambling is straight forward but with a fair degree of exposure. All in all a great trip with great people and an excellent guide.

Fantastic entry to group travel, and incredible Baltic States
Baltic Trails Adventure
I had only a vague idea what to expect when I arrived in Vilnius at the start of this 10-day Baltic States trip. One thing that didn’t surprise me was the severity that the Soviet era had had on the whole area. Having flown from Manchester very early on a Saturday morning, arriving at Latvia’s capital to be greeted by the synonymous television tower in the distance was reminiscent of watching the fall of the old Soviet empire in the ’80s & ’90s. A beautiful Vilnius greeted us for the first two nights: vibrant and “happening” what a stunning mixture of the old and communism-style architecture, mixed with a noticeable amount of space. A trip to the Curonian Spit and it’s vastness of properly high sand-dunes, along with views to neighbouring Russia (yup, there’s a conundrum...), and trees. After overnighting in Klaipeda, we headed north to Riga for a two night stay in a city centre hotel which made exploring the city and surrounding countryside very easy. Again the vibrancy of the architecture was seriously impressive, but the brutality of the old Soviet era had left its mark, although not necessarily in a bad way, more a reminder of recent history. A much needed day of travelling to Tallinn via Pärnu, the Estonian beach holiday destination, followed by three nights in an old hotel within the ancient city walls, saw us well and truly spoilt for a diverse mixture of architecture and things to see & do. One highlight - and definitely worth booking to do - was visiting the non-existent 23rd floor of the Hotel Viru, a hastily evacuated KGB listening post in 1991....this brought home to me how “close” we all were to such control. Follow this with a trip to the KGB interrogation cells, merely yards from our hotel. Onwards, via ferry, to Helsinki for our final day and the city tour went from amazing to incredible with each corner we turned. Our KE guide for the trip, Kristine, was very knowledgeable, and being a Lithuanian was able to help immerse us in the local cultures of the different countries. The walking we did was a perfect mix of urban, bog-type duck-boards, woodland and trail routes. Great trip and I’d recommend to anyone, especially those with a nose for modern history too. The diversity of the food was great: some of the local dishes definitely have an acquired taste!

A richly rewarding Journey through contrasting Landscapes
Traverse of the Picos de Europa
Our Journey through The Picos De Europa proved a deeply satisfying and varied experience. Each day of the Traverse brought new vistas and trekking challenges. Right from the outset the trail led through verdant upland pastures dotted with Limestone erratics through to starker, rockier terrain in the upper levels. Similarly the tinkling cattle and inquisitive donkeys contrasted with the furtive chamois and soaring vultures against the pinnacled cliffs. The sinuous shepards path leading steeply do wn to the Cares Gorge and the long but well graded ascent to Naranjo de Bulnes, were definite highlights. The hotels, guesthouses and refugios were clean and characterful and provided excellent food and libation aside from perhaps the highest refuge, which was rather austere and impersonal. Rosana, our local guide was quite outstanding, going far beyond her professional duties with a friendly, supportive approach which inspired confidence within the party. Just a couple of tips; carry a pair of flip flops or sandals for the last refuge as they have no hut shoes for guests and be prepared for a lengthy scramble with good hand/foot holds with brief bits of exposure on penultimate days trekking. Overall a wonderful trip and unreservedly recommended.

A beautiful coast
Footpaths of Liguria - Cinque Terre, Portofino and Porto Venere
This was an excellent holiday with a lovely group (only seven of us) and great weather. The walking days are quite short (other than the first day) but the terrain is steep and it can be quite strenuous in the hot weather. Several folk opted out of some days because of this. The guide (Marco) was one of the best I've ever had - caring, knowledgeable and highly professional. He also carried the picnic lunches for all of us and they were superb! Moneglia is a lovely town with an excellent san dy beach. The train travel worked well though the combination of train and bus on the last day meant a great deal of time was spent travelling. The weak spot was the hotel. The rooms were clean if a little basic and the breakfasts were fine, but the dinners were frankly poor. When did you last have chicken nuggets since you left school? Please KE - change the hotel!

KE Adventure reply

Thanks for the review Derek. Point taken. We have changed the dining arrangements to ensure that we encounter more of the flavours of Liguria at every dinner.

The next best thing...
Icefjords and Remote Villages of East Greenland
I wish I had the where-with-all to go on expeditions... however this holiday brought me close. The landscape is amazing, the geology and flora intriguing, the vast emptiness awesome and the proximity to the changing lives of the Inuit, educational. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone with a sense of adventure. I particularly valued the opportunity to sit and stare up the Sermilik Fjord, the water mirror calm, the air sharp, the sun warming and silence... apart from the occasional crack of splitting ice or boom of calving from the glaciers. Be prepared for bucket toilets and a lack of showers for a few days... however there is plenty of pure icy water if you want to get clean! Drank the water straight from the streams. The hostel at Kuummiit is a tight fit for a full group.
