Huge potential

Naar to Mustang

I left the trip after day 7 so my remarks have not been made by someone who completed the trip. The trip leader, Sirdar and crew did an excellent job. If there is anything that could be improved it would to reduce the amount of altitude gain in those important first few days. I am unsure how you would do this as large camp sites are limited in the Koto - Naar gorge.

Hard camping not for wooses

It's a contrary combination the walking isn't hard going but the camping is, as cold high and If you are vegetarian then it will be challenging as most dishes had meat in some form and this had to be picked out, so take lots of goodies. Great tents great views great experience.

Unique cycling experience

Jordan End 2 End Bike Tour

Really interesting country which I previously knew little about. The cycling is challenging - not for the distances covered, but the terrain is very (and continuously) hilly - up to about 5500 feet - with quite a few of the gradients in excess of 10% for several kilometres. Combine that with the heat (low to mid 30's°C) and you have a stiff cycling environment. However, you get back stunning views and glorious descents for the brave-hearted. Local guide crew were excellent, constantly in ... attendance with cycling snacks, cold drinks, lunches and a wealth of local knowledge, not to mention an air-conditioned bus to provide a cooling oasis of shade. As a result of the local environment, it is generally required to ride together as a group along with the local guide, so if "doing your own thing" is important to you, this holiday might not be for you, but if you enjoy climbing and are interested in Middle East history (and Petra and Jaresh are definitely worth a visit) then I can highly recommend this tour.

A bucket list active adventure holiday

Classic Tour du Mont Blanc

This classic tour exceeded our expectations - the scenery was beautiful and our group of 7 got along really well. We were fortunate in having great weather for most of the trip; not sure how pleasant this would have been with lots of rain and cold. The description and notes for each days' hike were accurate so we were prepared for the ascents and descents and the difficult terrain. Our guide Sophie was very knowledgeable and took good care of us. Our only complaint is not getting the marital ... bedroom with en-suite bath when it was available at several of the lodges (the other couple got it every time!)

Fun trip

Volcanoes of Indonesia

I enjoyed this trip. The volcanoes are fascinating and very beautiful, and KE has done a good job of selecting ones that are all quite different from one another so the hikes are quite varied. (Note that the hikes on Ijen (2 hrs) and Batur (about 3 hrs) are much shorter than indicated in the KE itinerary, so there was actually less hiking than I had hoped for). There was a nice mix of culture with the various temples mixed in, and our guides Rani (Java) and Wira (Bali) were fantastic and took ... amazing care of us. Ubud is fun and I highly recommend you visit Gunung Kawi temple on your free day. On the downside, you should be prepared for the fact that there are some very long travel days, that the volcanoes are very heavily visited, and that you might not get to do the Rinjani hike (it erupted the night before we arrived and we were only permitted to do a portion of the 3 day hike). All in all, a good trip that I would recommend.

Good trip in a beautiful country

Oman Adventure Trekking

Oman was far more beautiful than I expected, and I enjoyed the hiking we did on the trip, which was varied, and offered some amazing mountain and coastal views. I wish the trip had had more cultural interaction, as we hardly even met or spoke to any Omanis the entire time. I went on this trip in Jan 2014, and we were all very disappointed with our guides, who were disorganized, unhelpful, and even argued repeatedly in front of us (there seemed to be some sort of power struggle going on). I ... heard through the grapevine that KE listened to our complaints about them and has made the necessary changes, so hopefully this is no longer an issue. Oman is really beautiful and worth visiting, so as long as the guides have changed, I would recommend this trip.

Great trip!

Classic Haute Route

I loved this trek. The trails were great, the views were fantastic, the food was amazing, and the huts were cozy (and often perched in the most amazing spots!). I had never been hiking in Europe before this and had therefore always camped on my treks, but the hut-to-hut experience was fun. It's definitely a different approach, but it was more social, and having a warm bed and good food waiting for you was pretty nice! Our guides were all great and took good care of us. I have absolutely nothing ... bad to say about this trip. Go!

Breathtaking

Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route

As I'm one of the ones who DIDN'T make it to the summit due to altitude sickness, I will review that part. Someone from KE in England called me immediately after the event which was very helpful. I developed pulmonary oedema and needed to descent while the rest of the group continued to climb from Karanga Valley camp. The contracted tour company did an excellent job of getting me down off the mountain in a timely manner. I was at first taken care of by our lead guide Elias, and then accompanied ... down the mountain with assistant guide Barbabas, and a porter. I never felt at risk or in danger due to my condition. Barnabas was outstanding in his care getting down - some 20 km and 8500 feet of descent. We were met by an "evacuation vehicle" which brought me to Arusha, and then a doctor who took care of me at the hotel. Thank you for being competent and caring during an unplanned difficult time.

Beautiful and fascinating scenery and sites.

Choquequirao to Machu Picchu

This was the best KE trip that I have been on. The guides were excellent; informative, accommodating and pleasant. Could not do enough for us. The equipment provided was very good. The food was excellent and varied. The degree of difficulty was as described (more difficult than a trek to Evererst Base Camp) and with a group of 14 with a wide range of ages and fitness the guides were able to keep us all on track to get to our destinations in reasonable time. Maybe not as quickly as the more able ... would have liked but close to projected times.

A wonderful experience in a beautiful country with a stunning landscape

Walking Slovenia's Lakes and Mountains

We were very impressed with organisation everything went like clockwork I think the walks were well thought out with regard to degrees of difficult and paced to take into account the groups capabilities and fitness, only one word of advise always listen to the guide they do know what they are talking about and are there to help make the experience safe and enjoyable. WE ARE ALREADY PLANNING OUR NEXT TRIP WITH KE, ONLY PROBLEM IS KNOWING WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE!!

Disappointing not to be able to make the best of the conditions

High Level Pyrenees Snowshoe Holiday

The Pyrenees in winter is a stunning place and we had some good snowshoeing. Food at Feniere was excellent and the group was great fun. However, snow conditions were challenging as we know can happen in the mountains. Previous reviews have praised the ability of the guide to use his experience and local knowledge to vary the itinerary to make the best of the conditions and maximise the snowshoeing. Unfortunately John was not available to take our group at the last minute and the substitute ... guide did not have such local knowledge. We were very disappointed with the limited snowshoeing on the expedition days.

Varied itinerary in glorious sunshine

Walking the White Mountains of Crete

Really enjoyed this holiday in the sunshine! The walking was varied and the atmosphere relaxed. Jean was a knowledgeable guide who managed the group well in his laid back and humorous style. It was great to head to the beach for a swim at the end of each day. The food and accommodation were good. It is a great opportunity to enjoy Crete away from the tourist trail. Be aware that the underfoot conditions include a fair bit of loose rock so full boots, as recommended on the kit list, are a good ... idea. Also bear in mind that a couple of the villages on the itinerary don't have shops so take along plenty of snacks if you need them. A cancelled return flight "forced" us to stay an extra day in Chania which we enjoyed and would actually have been a worthwhile extension. Definitely recommend this holiday.

zambia/malawi could have been fantastic

Trek Malawi's Mount Mulanje & South Luangwa

eddie our guide was great but he had to drive us about and it stated in notes that we would have a separate driver. this meant because of our questions about the local area etc. he had to slow down. this meant on our trip from zambia to the mountains, our stay at a great lodge was compromised because when we had walked to the sunset bar it was dark and we didnt see anything at all. the lodge before we set of for the mountains was very very basic and the rooms we were given were dirty and ... depressing and the staff were a bit ignorant. the trekking and mountain parts were fantastic, except we had paid for tents and we didnt have any. excuse was that due to health and safety and the risk of fire having tents was not feasible. on return to the same lodge that we had not liked, we were given the same rooms but eddie our guide throughout, sorted this out for us and made it a much better experience. unfortunately during the night i had loose bowels which remained for the rest of the trip and for at least 10 days afterwards. obviously this spoiled the lake malawi experience for me.but all this sounds negative and all the guides, the people of malawi the experiences we saw and did couldnt have been better. the mountain guides were excellent and we left a lot of walking clothes with them and they were really grateful. What i would say is that if i had known before i went i would have taken some of my grandchildrens clothes to give to the kids at lake malawi that were outside the gates of the lodge. it is mainly a poor country and anything u take for them will be appreciated

We have spoken to our local agent about the rooms you were given on your first visit to the mountain lodge and they have assured us that in future, all KE clients will use the rooms that Eddie was able to arrange for you. We have been informed that camping was prohibited during your stay on Mulanje due to risk of fire. We believe this was a temporary injunction and as you will be aware, we have refunded everyone their single tent supplement for these nights. We are glad that despite these issues, you thought all the guides and the people of Malawi and the experiences you had, could not have been better.

Best organized trip ever

Beyond Kulu

I have made many treks before. But this one was very special. Everything was well organized. Absolutley no negatives occourrences etc.. Many thanks to our fantastic leader Rickson and his team (from Rimo). Last but not least - the whole Group was fantastic !!!! I´ll Keep in mind the trek beyond Kullu :-)

Great challenge!

Best of Corsica's GR20

I really enjoyed this trip - you get a great sense of achievement. The pace was faster than anticipated (our guide was aiming at 400m ascent per hour but we were a bit slower than that) and some of the days quite long (on the longest day we hiked from 5.30am to 4.30pm with only short breaks). I was a bit apprehensive about the sections with chains but these were actually quite straight forward. Descending on loose scree or going down very uneven rocky paths was more difficult as you had to ... concentrate all the time. The landscape was great and every day seemed different. I enjoyed the lunches we were given at the refuges, e.g. tuna pasta salad. For breakfast at the refuges I brought Porridge pots with me which I really appreciated when we had our early starts.

Fabulous walking with an excellent guide

Secret Sierras of the Costa Blanca

This holiday has wonderfully scenic and rewarding walks, lovely locally produced food and comfortable accommodation. The icing on the cake though is the guide - Jose's passionate and good-humoured and caring professionalism shines through and brings an extra dimension to the week. If you love mountain walking in places like the Lake District or Snowdonia then this is a great next step - Slightly higher mountains and better weather! The week is graded a 5 on the KE scale but many fellow walkers ... who had done other KE holidays felt it should be graded slightly higher. Do it!

Fantastic walking in the Picos

Traverse of the Picos de Europa

This holiday is great if you want to make use of the mountain huts in the Picos but still have a guided trip. The itinerary is perfect in that its hotel, 2 nights in refuge, hotel, night in refuge, night in mountain hotel, then the final night back down in a hotel, so you don't have to carry a huge amount each day. My rucksack is 30 litres and it was adequate. The guide was really good and knowledgeable, and speaking to those who had used KE before, the guide was up there as one of the best. At ... all accommodation the food was plentiful and filled you up. This part of Spain is very cheap if you need to buy any extras, and its proximity to Bilbao and other cities on the north coast makes it easy to add a few days onto this trip.

Excellent Walking Tour

Classic Tour du Mont Blanc

Excellent walking tour with very good food/accommodation in all the hotels used. The guide had a very wide experience of working in the Alps and was a fund of knowledge on the geology, plant and animal life (he trained as a student at an agricultural college) and history of climbing in the areas we were walking in.
