Amazing holiday but the difficulty level needs adjustment
Footpaths of Liguria - Cinque Terre, Portofino and Porto Venere
We were the first group to participate in this walking tour. I could have given the tour a higher rating as the scenery was spectacular, the hotel location and staff were superb and our guide was amazing but the tour, in our opinion, had a difficulty level which far exceeded that which was advertised. This is a not a tour for the "weekend hiker". We walked 6-9 hours a day in very difficult terrain. You must either climb a mountain or descend a mountain - there is very little flat walki ng. I would recommend training in advance. I have been walking daily for 20 years (in a flat environment) and I found the hiking quite challenging. You will need good hiking shoes, a hat and plenty of sunscreen as it is often very hot on the mountainsides. The food was incredible and the family run hotel was quaint and comfortable.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. The level of the walking on the Cinque Terre should be as described but we do understand that it may have seemed more difficult than expected if you are used to doing your hiking in a flat environment. We are speaking to our local agent and your guide to assess whether we should increase the grade of the trip in light of your feedback. We are very pleased that you found the scenery "spectacular", the hotel location and staff "superb", and your guide "amazing".

tough
One Week Mount Toubkal Trek
Much tougher than advertised. Early starts at 04.30 plus all day trekking. Mostly scree, so hard on feet. Camping okay but terrible unusable toilet facilities. Trek is over ambitious for 5 days. Felt like a forced march all the time. Our guide was a nice person but not interactive or communicative at all. He did not inspire confidence . Hotel in Marrakesh not good. dour staff and dreadful food. Overall disappointed with this holiday and KE, especially having had such a good time in Nepal with KE . This trek should be for 7 days.

KE Adventure reply

We are sorry that you found the trek to be tougher than expected. On the website and in our literature about this holiday, we describe the trip as “one of our most challenging trekking holidays in Morocco” and recommend that clients undertaking it, “should be comfortable with walking for up to 8 or 9 hours each day and for several days continuously”. We have taken on board your comments about toilet facilities on trek and about the food and service from your hotel in Marrakech and we are investigating this with our local agent. We were surprised that your guide Omar did not inspire you with confidence as we are used to seeing glowing reports about him from KE clients. In the interests of balance, we feel we must point out that all feedback we have had so far from other members of your group is extremely positive and includes the following comments about Omar: “Excellent guide – funny and sensitive to the needs of the group (and individuals)”; “Very knowledgeable and interacts with clients and muleteers very well”; “Omar is an outstanding leader”; “Omar was always helpful and pleasant to be around. In particular, I appreciated his considerate pace setting on summit day which saw all of us who attempted it safely at the top.”

A great trip but Iceland is a wet and windy country!
Iceland: The Three Peaks Challenge
Excellent trip, great guide, great food (including some local specialties). Iceland is extremely photogenic as a country but it is also very wet and very windy. We only had one day of relatively ok weather in our week and this seems to be more the rule than the exception. Of the three peaks, we had to turn back on the first one because we were about to take off given how strong the wind (and the horizontal rain) was, we did not summit Hekla because of wind and clouds. But three of us got to the highest point in Iceland. This was a great and fun day although we had no views at all and walked in the caldera in a complete white out! The hikes were complemented by great excursions and sightseeings which led to a great trip overall!

Wonderful walks and a lot of fun
Levada Trails and Peaks of Madeira
This was a great week of walking - every day was quite different, and it felt like we saw a lot of the island in just a week. The walking wasn't difficult, but it was really interesting - mountain climbs, levada walks (just because they are flat doesn't mean there's not plenty of excitement still to be had!), coastal walks, and some steep ups and downs. Lots of different types of flowers and plants to spot each day (and our wonderful guide Roberto knew every single one). Even if t he forecast is for sun, sun, sun you will still need your waterproofs for some of the walks (but I don't want to give some of the surprises away!) The last day climbing the high peaks was my favourite - we were up above the clouds in the sunshine, and the path that wove up and round the mountains was incredible (if a little busy in places). Madeira is a lovely place to visit - nice hotels, plenty to see, delicious food, and great mojitos in the beach bar at Paul do Mar to drink while watching the sunset over the sea.

An explosive experience

The highlight was definitely the trip up Stromboli to the volcanic eruptions. A truly awesome experience. Rosario, our guide was excellent. His knowledge and enthusiasm for his native Sicily added immensely to the holiday. We enjoyed great culinary experiences with Rosario ably helping us to sample Italian and Sicilian food.

Wonderful walking vacation along the Amalfi coast
Trails of the Amalfi Coast
This trip was so much fun! The walking was just enough to work off the delicious Italian meals. Our guide (Carlotta) introduced us to local foods as well as customs and history of the region. The views of the coast and visits to Positano and Amalfi were amazing and I especially enjoyed the picnic lunches on the trails. It was great to see Vesuvius and Pompeii - and I recommend paying a bit extra to have a tour guide take you around Pompeii. Pompeii was not well marked and a bit challenging to fi nd our way to see the highlights without a guide. Overall this was a wonderful adventure and great walking vacation tour!

Everest Yeti Trail Luxury Lodge Trek

Great Trek. The local guide was great and the inns were very nice. This is a nice trek with inns that provide good comfort and very good local food. The views were incredible. All in all I would rate this trip as excellent and well worth the money.

active adventure, fun and informative
Multi-activity Family Adventure in Poland
- Itinerary was very varied and tour guide was able to be flexible to accommodate weather and our group needs and wishes - Accommodation was adequate -hotel staff were welcoming and had good English. Food was good particularly breakfast. - The timing of activities was good with free time built in each day - The programme enabled us to experience the local culture e.g. eating out in local restaurants - The tour guide was excellent - friendly, extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the are a. as well as very skilled in leading the group. He did 'over and above' what we could have reasonably expected. - The level of activity was suited to our abilities - We thoroughly enjoyed our first holiday in Poland and felt that we had been able to get to know a lot about polish life, culture and history. The experience was greatly enhanced by the tour guide who shared his enthusiasm for the area with us.

A lovely winter sun choice.
Viva Gran Canaria
An extremely well organised trip. Ray, the leader, was extremely knowledgeable and also engaging (in his own unique style!). Weather was not always as kind to us as we had been hoping, but the scenery was still beautiful. Walking routes were well judged: well within the capabilities of most weekend walkers from the UK. Accommodation was absolutely first class: excellent rooms, super facilities and an abundance of good quality buffet style food. I am sure that I ate more than the calorie demands of the walks required...

Elephants galore
Botswana Wildside Lodge Safari
The holiday was very well run by the local agent and their two tour guides - Paul and Phumi - were just superb. The meals they prepared were always excellent and they were continuously anxious to ensure that we had a brilliant experience. The first two days involved a lot of driving (Phumi did a great job) but there were always things to see. After this, the driving was much more reasonable. The highlight for us was the Okavango - what a beautiful place. The camping there was very comfortable an d all the other accommodation was excellent, with the exception of the lodge at Khama where two couples shared each lodge - sharing a bathroom was OK but it was really en-suite to one of the rooms. One must mention the people of the area - so friendly, happy to chat and talk about their lives. The local guides were of variable quality, but where not so good, we were blessed by having our own tour guides who usually knew much more then they did about the animals we were seeing. However, our guide in Moremi and our first guide in Chobe were excellent. Finally to the animals - exciting encounters with such beautiful animals, sometimes at very close range.

A wonderful life changing experience enjoyed in comfort
Everest Yeti Trail Luxury Lodge Trek

A trek that is achievable by any keen walker, this route gives unrivalled views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam and the route takes in trails and passes rarely used by other trekkers. The YMH lodges provide great comfort and excellent food with a high level of care from the wonderful staff. Our trek leader, Lhakpa Rita Sherpa and his team were fantastic and made the trip the life changing experience that it was. Thanks to all. Mark and Gerry

I couldn't have wished for more...
Bike Jordan Dead 2 Red
Do this trip! Even if you have been to Jordan! I am a keen cyclist and a keen traveller; curious to learn about other cultures. This trip more than matched my needs for both cycling and experiencing the real Jordan whilst ticking off the well known sites that may draw one to Jordan in the first place (i.e. Petra). The guides were immaculately organised and included evening briefings - prepping us for what lay ahead ..."another Jordanian flat"...Yet it mattered not what level cyclist yo u were, the back up van was always there to collect any weary soul. The guides (Jordanian team champs) transferred their experience of serious cycling to us which helped tremendously when it came to the big climbs. The climbs can be rather big too which was wonderful to experience. Likewise cycling off road on sand was a first and by the end of the trip we came away being better technical cyclists - something rather pleasing. The distances were perfect - approximately 100km. Cycling was really a means to travel, we passed through villages and small towns, stopping with the Bedouins from time to time for tea. The local hospitality was second to none - so generous and interested in who we were. Gloriously interactive. We didn't take the standard tourist routes and the trip is interspersed with little surprises which I shan't tell else I'll spoil them... Wadi Rum, sleeping under the stars had to be a highlight, just wonderful... not to mention the fun cycling back out on the sandy rock... We added on an extra day to see Jarash - well worth it. Also an extra day in a Spa hotel was just bliss and perfectly spoiling... This trip was one of my favourites to date. We have already ear marked which ones we would like to do next year and referred several friends to KE. I could keep waxing lyrical....

A truly awe-inspiring experience!
Around Manaslu Trek
This was my first trek with KE Adventure Travel and my first visit to Nepal. I was fortunate enough to go with friends who had previously been on an Everest Base Camp trek 7 years previously, I was able to ask no end of questions during the year, months and days leading up to the trip which helped me prepare. Despite the tips and the coaching, I went with an open mind, no amount of ‘You Tube’ watching or documentaries on the Himalaya (and even Everest), would prepare me for the sensory overl oad that lay ahead of me as I touched down for the first time in Kathmandu and embarked on my ‘trek of a life time’! Kathmandu was an experience in itself but as we commenced our trek through the varied and quite diverse eco systems to our various lodges and Tea Houses, it didn't take me long to fall completely in love with this beautiful country. The scenery was stunning, literally breath taking (it had nothing to do with the altitude!). The people were welcoming and friendly and we were invariably greeted with 'Nameste', (that's If we didn't get to say it first!). Ricky our trek leader knew everything there was about his amazing country and would take time to explain things to us about various aspects of their culture and religion. He would surprise us all after our evening dinner with some quite amazing facts - we all secretly looked forward to 'Ricky Time'. He was an excellent leader, ensuring that us tourists and his team (the strong boys and Tendi, Maan & Sota the Sherpas) were all happy and well looked after. I have to say this is probably one of the best experiences of my life and left me wanting to see and experience more of this country. I've been home less than a week and I'm already looking through the KE brochure for my next Nepal trip....Everest Base Camp or Mera Peak? (I best start saving!) Thank you KE, Ricky and his efficient and friendly team for making this a trek to remember.

Beyond expectations! Our guide "Ricky" fabulous as was the experience!! Wow!
Around Manaslu Trek
Our guide "Ricky" was exceptional with a vast background trekking and biking in the area and a local native, he was passionate about sharing Nepal and its unique stories of the sort that can't be found in guide books. He was also excellent at looking after the group as we aclimated, adjusting the itinerary to make the most out of each day for us as well as the sherpas and porters. A truly kind, compassionate and capable guide... really fun too! The trek was quite a unique one, hav ing hiked Gokyo/Everest BC, I had a general thought about what the trek was like, but was pleasantly taken aback at how different it was on so many levels. The diversity of terrain and cultures as we progressed as profound and stunningly beautiful. This is also a trek not to procrastinate doing, much like the Annapurna Circuit, a jeep trak is in the makings (slowly and by hand mostly) shortening the route and potentially cutting off some of the very special villages along the way. The durration of this trip was perfect, I wish it could stay like that, but like life, nothing remains the same. I loved my experience... thank you KE and "Ricky"!!!

Beautiful mountains
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
This is a great trip. The KE staff look after you really well and the camp is very comfortable. The mattresses are very thick so no need for the thermarest on the optional list! The food was very good. The first two trek days are ok, one downhill on a track and then one completely flat across stony desert. But when you start to climb into the mountains, that's when the amazing sandstone rock formations appear and you are camping right in the heart of them. The approach to Petra on the last day on wide rock ledges on the cliffside was superb.
