An excellent walking holiday in a fascinating country
Walking the Albanian Alps

My only comment : We had one guide for 16 walkers. This was not enough. One of the walkers had an accident on the very first walking day and the guide was unable to look after the injured walker as well as the remainder of the group. Quite rightly he looked after the injured walker but the remainder of the party were left completely alone on the mountainside for 7 - 8 hrs. At least two guides should have been provided.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We understand that on the first day of trekking from the Diagonal Pass, after a client hurt her knee during the descent, the guide allowed the group to descend at their own pace and wait at the lake. We also understand that an assistant guide accompanied the group for subsequent walks.

Outstanding trip that matched any I have been on previously
Road Cycling Tour of Corsica
I have been on a few cycling trips including a Raid Pyrenean, Alpine Cols of the Tour de France and Tibet to Nepal - and this Tour of Corsica was right up there with any of them. Corsica is a stunning island with a huge variety of scenery from coast to col. The weather was perfect for our trip in June 2017, with unbroken sunshine and average temps of around 30 degrees every day. Although this sounds a little hot for cycling there was usually a pleasant cooling breeze and humidity was never a pro blem. The hotels varied from rustic to rather posh but all were of a high standard. The quality and quantity of the food was exceptional – so much so that I gained a few pounds despite all the cycling ;-) What really made the trip outstanding was the people involved. Mandy our group leader was friendly, fun and an exceptional cyclist - she was particularly fast on the descents and as such is the star attraction on many of my GoPro videos of the trip! Mandy’s contribution to this trip was a major reason for its success. Thea our support driver did a great job of keeping us fed and watered at the snack and lunch stops, and also made sure our bags arrived safely at the next hotel - very impressive for one so young. My fellow group members were all great people who got along famously – you know who you are ;-). Everyone went at their own pace up and down the cols but we stuck together on the flatter bits and got some nice peloton action going! We all had the pleasure of Tim’s company on this trip – who only happens to be an MD of KE! It speaks volumes to me that the MD chooses to spend his summer holiday on one of his company’s own trips – great choice Tim ;-). Tim selflessly took the role of trip photographer and supplied us with many brilliant photos. I can’t recommend this trip highly enough and it should be at the top of any cycling enthusiast’s wish list. My only tip is to take more than the recommended £150 if you like a good drink after a hard day in the saddle because beer and wine is relatively expensive in Corsica.

Great for volcanoes, less so for a true Sicilian experience
As per the title above i.e. "Great for volcanoes, less so for a true Sicilian experience". The walks up the volcanoes were amazing and that was thanks to the extra trained guides required for Stromboli and Etna. However, the food provided during the trip was less than average with no Sicilian flavours: bland ham and cheese sandwiches, iceberg/tuna/sweet corn salad all coming out of a can.... This is a real shame knowing that this country has much more to offer! No seasonal fruits/veget ables whereas there were plenty everywhere. Difficulty of the walks should be reviewed and scored higher than 5/10 as one has to be pretty fit and healthy to be able to complete them. Finally the guide was lovely but rather inexperienced and only spoke basic English so he did not offer much explanations of the surroundings where walking. He also planned too much in advance leaving us waiting for 1-2 hours at various points of the trip for the walks to start, ferries to board etc

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you thought the walks on the holiday were amazing. It is always difficult on an all-inclusive holiday to cater for all preferences. We agree with you that the full delights of Sicilian food should not be missed whatever your tastes, and for future departures, we are allowing for a much wider choice of dining options where these are available.

Good hiking . Enjoyed the local cuisine. Tour guides will excellent.
Tastes and Trails of North Macedonia

Good hiking .  Enjoyed the local cuisine. Tour  guides will excellent. The only complain we have is the Hotel Residence Inn at Skopje. The facilities will not of satisfactory safe standard i.e electrical wiring and there was no hot water in our room for showers. Also half the sockets in our room does not work.

Breathtaking walking holiday (in many ways)
Levada Trails and Peaks of Madeira
We had a fantastic time walking the peaks and levadas of Madeira. Each day is very different and although the walking is at times quite challenging the tremendous views from the peaks make it very rewarding. I would warn that some of the trails are a little bit exposed and if your are nervous about heights this should be taken into consideration. The island of Madeira is beautiful and this holiday allows you to get a very full appreciation of the entire island on the mix of walking trails and lo cations that you stay in each night. Our group consisted of six travellers and our guide Roberto Fillipe who added tremendous value to each day with his preparation for the trip, his knowledge of the island and his ability to name any number of the variety of flowers blooming around every corner. I would definitely recommend that you take walking poles on this trip as some of the uphills and downhills are steep and can be a little bit tricky underfoot. The itinerary published by KE is very useful and describes each days experience pretty accurately and their equipment listing is also pretty much spot on. All in all a tremendous walking experience in a very beautiful location.

Beautiful scenery, good weather, plenty of wildlife & good food
Botswana Wildside Camping Safari
What a fantastic 15 day holiday/adventure. Our guides were fantastic, there knowledge & passion was second to none. The camping was enjoyable, even though you spent 7 nights wild camping, which there are no proper toilets/ showers. We saw so much wildlife such as Elephants, Rhino, Zebra,Giraffe,Lions & plenty of bird life. Entering Botswana from South Africa their is an entry visa fee to pay $30, but we got away with it as it was postponed for some reason. Entry into Zambia is $5 0, but for the same price you can get double entry to include Zimbabwe, which is what i did. While doing the wild camps, make sure you take plenty of bottled water in with you. While in Zambia we went to Victoria falls, WOW fantastic, did get very wet as the falls were strong & the spray got you wet. We went into Zimbabwe, which i recommend , again for the other half of the Victoria Falls, also went to the Victoria Falls Hotel for a cocktail sat out the back with a view of the Victoria Bridge. Whilst in Zambia & Zimbabwe its recommend to use US dollars. I would highly recommend this holiday as the campsites for the wild camping are right in where the animals roam, would defiantly go again

An amazing and memorable trek, experiencing the real Morocco
Mount Mgoun - Kingdom of the Berbers
Although this trip was in places far more extreme than my daughter & I had anticipated, it was a truly amazing experience. The scenery was stunning, and the people we met in remote villages and the children who would just appear out of nowhere gave us a real sense of what this lovely country was like. We had chosen this trek as a challenge to raise funds for the National Brain Appeal and the sense of achievement and emotion when we reached the summit will stay with us both for a long tim e. We were fortunate to be with a great group of people who bonded well and by and large supported each other along the way. Our guide Omar was excellent. He was informative, professional and kept a pace that everyone could keep to. We had one issue with our last night accommodation on the trek but Omar was on the case quickly and soon sourced an alternative beautiful Riad for us to stay. His fellow muleteers, and particularly Abdul the chef, are also worthy of a mention and were friendly, helpful and entertaining. If you are up for a challenge and want to experience the ‘real’ Morocco, I would highly recommend this trip.

I couldnt fault it, the accomodation, food, guide or itinerary,
Walking Croatia's Coast & Mountains

Being used to the camping style of trekking this was a luxurious change, we often chuckled and grinned at the contrast to previous trips. A 4* villa with Adriatic sea views, mountain lodges and modern hotels within Roman ruins , this trip had it all and that is before I mention the natural wonders seen and the food.

Good trip, hard trip, rewarding trip
Victoria Falls to Cape Town
I'm writing this from a month and a half's perspective since I've been back. First, my husband and I normally do self supported trips so I'm always concerned because the guide and group can make such a huge difference on these kind of deals. The guides were great. They have a really hard job working 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday. Bevan the lead guide was fastidious about our safety and set rules early on that kept the group at a good cadence. He loosened up once he had the group all on track and was very pleasant. Colin and Andy were amazing. I particularly liked Andy's laugh and caught some of it on video that I like to listen to every now again because it makes me smile. The group was pretty good too. It was a really fast group of cyclists. So through Botswana I had to stay on someone's wheel to keep up. That was a bit frustrating because I've never been to Africa before and I really would have liked a slower pace that allowed for more picture taking. I ended up keeping my point and shoot camera in my bra and would grab it out and take pictures on the fly but eventually the camera broke from the sweat. Very frustrating. Namibia in a word is hard biking. The roads are horribly wash boarded. But the landscapes are simply vast and amazing. I would take the hard biking just to see that kind of scenery. South Africa was epic. The bike ride from Cape of Good Hope to Cape Town is a must do. Regarding food - the breakfasts were not so great. Granola and Yogurt. That was pretty much it. You have to get on the road early to beat the heat but it would have been nice to have hard boiled eggs or something a little more substantial. The lunches were ok, not super inspiring but filling...usually cold cuts. The dinners were masterpieces. The guides would usually have some sort of wild game and do some feast of a bbq (a Braii as they call it down there) over an open fire. It was splendid. Logistically, we rented bikes and were so glad we did. The bikes get beat to hell riding on the roads and being on the trailer over such rough roads. The bikes we rented from KE were awesome 29ers that they put skinny tires on for Botswana and then changed out to MTB tires in Namibia and South Africa. We ended up spending a few days prior to the trip in Livingstone, Zambia. I'm really glad we did as it allowed us to get through the jet lag and also visit Victoria Falls with enough time to really see it and hike through the park. We took a microlight flight above it that I highly recommend. We also spent 2.5 days at the end of the trip taking in Cape Town. That was awesome too and the hike up Table Mountain and the views from the top were spectacular. Visiting Robbens Island is a must do as well. Very stirring having a former political prisoner walk you through where they were imprisoned and telling you what it is like. You still see the vestiges of apartheid in Namibia and South Africa. They have a long way to go to get to equality. Some tips that I would recommend KE put in their packing list: Bring some handwashing soap for clothes and clothesline pins. Also I recommend bringing 10 foot or so of light cord for the clothes line. You want to wash your clothes most days. The bathroom and shower facilities were great at each of the campsites. I had a hot shower every day except one or two which was nice. The mattresses they provided were nice too. We had brought extra light weight blow up mattresses just in case theirs weren't any good but we never ended up using them. We also brought down pillows. Basically the sleeping arrangements were like a bed and I slept like a baby every night. Also, you get to see the Milky Way most nights. That is spectacular. I hadn't seen that since I was a kid! All in all, it was a really nice trip and I would recommend it to others.

Memories of a lifetime!
Walking Croatia's Coast and Islands
Outstanding from beginning to end! A faultless journey along the coast and onto some of the most gorgeous islands that you will ever see. Darko, our guide, enriched us with his never ending knowledge of this beautiful country and with such graciousness and expertise..we could not have asked for a better person to guide us to the hills, valleys, vineyards churches, monasteries, city walls and so much more. This man is a natural and a great asset to this company...treasure him well! If you can hik e 8- 10 miles /day this is a must do without a doubt.

Hiking and eating in Macedonia.
Tastes and Trails of North Macedonia
Macedonia deserves to have more visitors. It’s not nearly as well known as it should be. The hiking in the mountains is so rewarding in terms of the scenery - forested mountains and clear lakes wherever you look. And wonderful fresh local food wherever you ate, straight from the hills you have just walked. At Lake Orhid, where the itinerary allows for a free day, there is a variety of options available. Scuba diving an underwater archaeological site, tandem paragliding, horse riding and visiti ng museums are all possible. But I think it would be a good idea if these options were made known to the travellers beforehand so that they could be booked in advance. As well as the excellent hikes, this trip really can be considered a culinary adventure as well.

The Jewel in the Crown
Walking Wild Tuscany

This was my fourth KE Trek and, without doubt, the best in terms of catering (a definite misnomer in this case!) and accommodation. The walking is fantastic, the panoramic views stunning and the guiding exceptional. We were treated like kings throughout and our thanks go to Jamie, Ailsa, Stefano and Agat for making it such a memorable trip.

An amazing encounter with the sights, sounds and smells of volcanoes
Island Hopping Active Family Holiday in Sicily, Italy
This is an incredible holiday in a beautiful part of the world with a tremendous range of volcanic scenery and activity, delicious food and wonderful cities. It was made even better by fantastic weather, calm seas and coincided with increased activity of Stromboli. Rosario our guide was very helpful and reassuring despite not having lead a family trip before. Once he had realised that children need to know exactly what they are doing all the time, there was less anxiety in the group. He arranged for our family to climb Stromboli on the free day - quite a slog in hot weather, but well worth it to gaze down into the heart of the volcanic craters at sunset and see glowing lava flung into the air with a colossal boom. We then had to descend in the dark and finally got back to the hotel after boat and taxi rides at quarter past midnight (hence not included in the itinerary). Rosario also lead extra walks for anyone that was interested on Lipari, Panarea, Taormina and Catania and arranged for us all to see Stromboli erupt at night from the sea on a private boat, rather than take the earlier hydrofoil. He also knew exactly where to find the best ice creams! May is definitely a great time to visit - sunny, but not too hot nor crowded, the sea is warm enough to swim and snorkel in, and there are lots of wild flowers and butterflies. We couldn't understand why it was recommended to take gloves and a woolly hat...until we visited Etna. It was 3 degrees and hailing at one point with a cold wind, but the walk from the top of the cable car was unmissable. We even stood on a very recent lava flow and picked up rocks which were still as hot as jacket potatoes. This trip definitely crams in more than you could possibly manage in the same time if doing it on your own, and if you don't feel like going on a walk, you don't have to do it, but have a lazy day on the beach instead. The accommodation was comfortable with the whole family of four in one room rather than split between two doubles on separate floors as we have encountered with other similar holiday providers. Highly recommended, but it would be sensible to have a reasonable level of fitness.

Tough but exciting trekking and camping in a fantastically scenic area
One Week Mount Toubkal Trek
This is quite a tough hike in rugged mountains with a lot of loose shaley ground and the grading possibly needs to be upped from 6 to 7. It combines reasonably easy paths with some long hard climbs of up to 1300m, and you will need to carry plenty of water. The last full day involves a 4am start to ascend Mt Toubkal before 8am, a quick descent for lunch, and then a very, very long walk-out to Imlil. We didn't arrive until 5pm, and weren't hanging around! The scenery throughout is super b, the local people and villages fascinating, and the food on trek outstanding. For sheer value for money, this holiday cannot be beaten! The only downside was the Marrakech hotel, which though handily situated and with decent rooms, serves shockingly poor quality food. Avoid!

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for a great review. We are pleased you found the food on trek to be "outstanding" and are sorry that on your trip, the hotel in Marrakech was not able to match this level. At the end of the holiday while staying in Marrakech, our groups enjoy a dinner in a local restaurant and we trust you found this as good as the trek fare.

Varied and diverse trekking experience
Walking in the Balkan Borderlands
This was a brilliantly organised trip offering diverse trekking experience in lots of different environments. Our guide Milan was very attentive and thoughtful, had lots of interesting insights to share, made the time to talk to all of us and really added to the sense of unity in the group. He answered all our questions and was really invested in us having a good time, he was absolutely wonderful! I had not done a trip like this before and while it was challenging at times, it was all enjoyable and I learned a lot about trekking differen terrain. The scenery is jaw dropping and people are friendly. I'd recommend staying on in Dubrovnik at the end, I also arrived in Pristina a day early to explore the city, which is not conventionally beautiful but has a good energy about it. If you are planning to wash clothes as you go don't forget a universal plug as none of the sinks seem to have them. People also really appreciate you learning a few words in their language (Albanian in Kosovo and Albania, Croatian/ Serbian- essentially the same language- in Montenegro and Croatia). We were lucky with the weather but I'd still recommend having gear for all weather as I used everything I'd brought!

An Unforgettable Adventure
Footpaths of Liguria - Cinque Terre, Portofino and Porto Venere
We fully enjoyed our 8 day hiking/walking tour in the region of Italy known as Liguria. Exploring the Cinque Terre and other towns and villages of the area was a definite highlight. We had challenging ascents and descents and were rewarded with stunning views. We navigated the area by train, bus, and boat as well as many many steps. We stayed in a lovely family run hotel in the town of Moneglia. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and all meals were full of flavour and local ingredients. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. Our guide, Isabelle, was integral in making the tour a success. She is a positive, energetic, and knowledgeable person who was always available and willing to change our routes or days to suit our wants and needs. She is a caring and funny person with whom we shared many stories and much laughter. If you choose this holiday, ensure that you are physically ready for average ascents of 400 m a day. The paths can be rocky and narrow and the heights can be intimidating at times so wear good hiking shoes that will take you through entire day.
