A wonderful walking holiday and glimpse into Albania
Walking the Albanian Alps

A wonderful trip and lovely trekking. Our guide, Erenik was great. He was very well organised and looked after us so well. He introduced us to aspects of Albanian culture and was sensitive to the needs of the group. Although there were many, perhaps my highlight of the trek was walking through the forests. That will stay with me for some time.

A really good trip but with one disappointment
Mountain Trails of Lebanon
The tour guide Caroll was great, i,ve done approx 15 trips with various companies and he was the best, the scenary and mountains where great and the hospitality was good. my main reason for doing this trip was to do Mount Qurnat as-Sawda, Lebanon's highest peak. Unfortunately we could not do it because of a military exercise, the thing that annoys me is this was never mentioned as a possibility in the trip notes or your website, things happen I know but all you had to do was mention this co uld be a possibility, the military have been doing exercises for decades in this area, you should mention this for your next trips to Lebanon. The reserve day Caroll put together after this disappointment was good, hard, long and rewarding, Lebanon is well worth a visit. The trip was well planned and I would definitely travel with KE again

KE Adventure reply

Thanks for your review. We understand it was disappointing not to be able to climb Mount Qurnat as-Sawda. Unfortunately, neither we nor our local agent were given any warning that the mountain would be closed on the day allocated for your climb. However, it's great that everyone has written to say how much they enjoyed the alternative arranged by your guide.

Perfect combination of trekking and sightseeing
Mountains and Marvels of Central Asia
Just back from this wonderful trip. I have read previous reviews and would like to add my 2 cents to what has been previously said. I think that KE have made a very good effort at tweaking this trip to make it much better and more logical. Trekking bit first. The trekking team were very good and professional, Sorbon (our guide) made sure we were well taken care of and actively participated in everything, The food provided was very good and I feel that the cook really made a great effort to provi de varied, nutritious breakfasts and dinners. Salads, soups and meat dishes were always provided, along with a nice variety of biscuits, nuts and dried fruits. Standards of hygiene seem to have been really improved and we noticed that all the crew took care to use hand sanitizers and wash hands often when dealing with food. We were always provided with soap and warm water to wash our hands before eating. No tummy trouble was reported during the trek in fact. We always camped near lakes or rivers so it was easy to wash stuff. Tents were of good quality though I do recommend taking an inflatable mattress to make things a bit more comfy. Toilet tent always set up too. The scenery was absolutely amazing and I have never seen such clear and multi-coloured lakes! Most of us had a quick dip to wash off the days dust and sweat, though be warned they are freezing and you won;t last more than 20-30 seconds in it before you start turning blue! Temperatures were very warm during the day but dropped considerably at night, and a good sleeping bag and jacket are certainly needed.I didn't change any money in Tajikistan, and never really needed any. Uzbekistan. Absolutely beautiful Silk Road cities. We crossed the border and headed to Samarkand, then Bukhara, then Khiva, flew to Taskhent in the evenng, had a day in Tashkent and took night flight back home. A much more logical itinerary. Our local guide was competent, had very good English and always tried her best to keep everyone happy. She even arranged for us to keep our rooms in the Tashkent hotel until we left for our flight, and that was something you will really appreciate when your flight is at 3am. Accommodation standards were good, always excellently located and always with ensuite bathrooms. Most of your group did have a bit of tummy trouble after what we think was lunch in a Samarkand restaurant, but nothng serious and everyone easily managed the rest of the trip. Long drive from Bukhara to Khiva on quite bad roads, but our driver was always careful, friendly and made sure to make it as sooth as possible. One of our highlights was when he took us to his cousin's wedding! Money-wise there are ATMs, but many places accept (clean, untorn) dollars or euros. Beer is about 2.5 euros a bottle, and good quality. Official money exchange offices are few on the ground though Tipping. We gave $30pp to the 3 donkey porters (hopefully the hard working donkeys also got an extra carrot for their troubles), $15pp to the cook, $15pp to the trek guide and $20pp to the overall Tajik guide ($80 total pp). In Uzbekistan we gave $20pp to the driver and another $20pp to the guide. Some people added something small extra for when the guide or driver went out of their way with something they needed. We felt it was a good amount and they seemed to appreciate it . A small note. In Uzbekistan we nearly always had huge 3 course meals and dessert. Most of us felt that it was a bit too much, especially lunch, and by the end of the trip most of us were skipping a lot of courses. Maybe at least lunch could be a bit shorter and lighter, would also save some time because often we stayed at restaurant for 1.5/2 hrs, when a lot of us would have rather been out sightseeing. Overall it was a really great trip and I feel that KE have done a great job with it. If anyone needs any more tips or info feel free to get in touch (adriancardona@hotmail.com)

Harder walking than it looks on the trip notes but so worth the extra effort
Mountain Trails of Lebanon
Without doubt this was a trip I looked forward to and enjoyed immensely as it's a real varied bag of visiting all the key tourist sites combined with 4 days of excellent mountain trekking that really surpassed my expectations! Sadly we couldn't trek to the summit of Qurnat as Sawda as the trails were closed by the army for their training but the alternative walk for that day (organised on the hoof by our guide Caroll) proved a worthwhile alternative. My personal "Top Tip" wou ld be to remember to read the Trip Notes and take a small tupperware style lunchbox (essential) and also take some high energy snack bars for the hiking days as whilst the packed lunch options were plentiful hard boiled eggs and flat bread some additional high energy bars will help whilst you're hiking in the mountains!

Amazing Opportunity to See Ancient Sites While Enjoying Spectacular Walks
Mountain Trails of Lebanon

We got to trek through pine forests, see amazing cedar trees and visit some of the best ruins on the planet. What we did and saw in a short 9 day window was incredible. Our guide George was amazing, made sure that all 15 of us had the perfect holiday. I'm home now sifting through 500+ photos, all very special to me. Trip was so amazing that I'm actually considering doing it again! This was the best and finest organized trip I've taken to date.

Amazing life experience
Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
The whole trip was amazing, the tour leader Henry, assistant leader John and all the support staff. Was a fascinating time however day 2 of the trek was a killer, I’ll try and put it into context! Imagine climbing Burj Khalifa twice and then some more, whilst in 35 degree heat, 40% humidity, the stairs being uneven, dust flowing everywhere and carrying 10kg and after that climb, there’s a 10k walk (approx) all completed whilst at altitude... that is just for starters (thank god for Raul). It was like taking a vacation in hell on a summers day with Satan being particularly sadistic!, it’s fair to say I wasn’t a big fan of day 2! however after all that endeavour the views and distinctions are awe inspiring. Henry and the team were supportive as were my group mates. The whole trip was a wonderful life experience and would highly recommend this adventure.

The weather was very warm so make sure you drink plenty of water. Both Mike and Ianna our guides were very helpful and knowledgable about the local history. They brought plenty of snacks and water to help us through the days. The cycling was on the road and also some ofs road. Had brilliant time.

A superb trek, and a superb team - will leave many happy memories!
The Ecrins Circuit - GR54
A previous reviewer from this trip (Kevin from Stevenage) has provided a lot of very useful information, and I totally agree with the points he's made. I would only add that the Écrins Circuit has a 'wilder' feel to it than the other treks I've done in the Alps (Tour du Mont Blanc and Tour de Monte Rosa). I liked it so much that I'd consider doing it again! The KE itinerary doesn't involve completing the whole circuit (which would take an extra 3-4 days, I think), but there could legitimately be demand for an extended circuit in the future. As usual, great service from KE, and I'd add my voice to Kevin's that Nirmal, our guide, was fantastic, and it was a pleasure that Martina, from KE, could join us.

Great walking trip with lots of scrambling
Across the Julian Alps to Triglav
We loved this trip. You get the chance to spend a lot of time relatively high walking on interesting and quiet trails. There is plenty of scrambling, some on nearly every day which keeps it interesting. While the distances don't look huge compared to some trips, most of the days were full. Views are superb and we got to see a decent amount of wildlife. We were unfortunate to have a day in the clouds but even then it remained enjoyable. The huts are "interesting". Come prepared for basic conditions. They are all warm, dry and relatively clean and pleasant enough. Food and drink was expensive in the huts as you would expect, so make sure you have enough money, take more if you like more than a beer or two in the evening. I would have taken more snacks as while the meals were often good, there were sometimes long gaps between them. It got cold on our trip in September. Below freezing on Triglav. There's easily enough to do in Bled to kill a few days and the Hotel we stayed in on the trip was nice. We were glad of an extra couple of days of luxury after the trip before heading home. Getting yourself to the airport is very simple with GoOpti.

A challenging but enormously rewarding trip in a stunningly beautiful area
Across the Julian Alps to Triglav
A tough walk but so worthwhile with enormously diverse experiences every day. What a beautiful and unspoiled part of Europe, made all the more enjoyable by knowledgeable, skilled and engaging Slovenian leaders. David and Miha were absolutely superb, probably the best I’ve had in 25 years of trekking, sorry to hear that David might be stopping soon but Miha is a gem. The hut-to-hut nature of the trip meant one is fully immersed in the locality with changing experiences and views every day. Part icular highlights were the long traverse on Day 3, visiting historical features associated with WW1, the 7 lakes valley valley and then the ultimate culmination of climbing Triglav. Like others we were surprised quite how expensive buying water in the huts was (beer or Radler is cheaper!) and occasionally a hot drink was not included with breakfast which seemed mean. Otherwise the arrangements were perfect. Thanks!

Hiking, Culture, Sea and Sun
Mountain Trails of Lebanon
Lebanon will change your opinion and perception that you may have of the country and Beirut, the people and the food. The LMT (Lebanese Mountain Trail) is supported by locals who truly believe in their country, the landscape and what it can offer and how far you can explore. You will discover a mixture of terrains - forests, valleys, mountains, trails and more. Experiencing ancient ruins in Baalbeck, Byblos and across Beirut, to wine tasting, discovering stalagmite and stalactite in Jeita caves, watching sunsets in places you couldn't have imagined. Highly recommend the trip.

Successful multi generational family trip
Multi-activity Family Adventure in Poland - Sadauckas

Tour was nice, hotel were average, pillows were aweful and Zakopane hotel would not turn heat on until 10/1 regardless of temps in the 30s. The biggest issue we had was the trail hike. The description was poorly described. We had ages 5-78, and the rocky terrain made the hike very slow and difficult for many. It took us 6.5 hours, it rained, snowed and we had to cut the distance short. Not a trail path in the mountains, many rocks/steps of varying size to climb both up and down.

Our Tanzanian Big Five
Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route
1. World's highest free standing mountain 2.World's largest volcanic caldera 3.World's largest land animal 4. World's largest bird 5.World's fastest land animal. Organisation flawless. The trek via the Lemosho route was stunning. The guides were professional and compassionate. Emanuel is a delightful lead guide as were his aids, Baraka and Clement and his fantastic team of porters. One big family adventure! All crew were caring and supportive of our group's needs. F ood was excellent and plenty of it. Perhaps still take a few snacks for during the day. The trek is made difficult by altitude not the terrain. Although I didn't have any, Diamox seemed to help those who did, so would recommend this as well as a supply of paracetamol/ibuprofen. The kit list is spot on. Our group blended superbly, everyone encouraging each other to achieve 100 % summit success. Three of us booked the follow on safari to Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire NPs. Each was amazing. Our guide, David, was excellent and allowed us more than perhaps his allocated time to view the splendid array of wildlife. The bird life is especially impressive. Our list exceeded 70 identified birds, and we are not dedicated ornithologists. Have some super photos birds, animals and flowers, including the very local 'impatiens kilimanjari' or elephant's trunk flower. The safari lodge accomodation was excellent and well within character for the location. Trip notes for the trip are very accurate, read them well. a 10/10 trip from KE again.

Wonderful walking through scenery that rivals anywhere in the world
Through the Heart of the Balkans
This was a very enjoyable trip with a group of 7. Grading is correct - the distances are not great and suitable for anyone who walks regularly. I was very glad I had poles with me as there are some steep downhills- particularly on day 4, where you have steep wooded downhill for around 4 km. The accommodation was varied; the hotel in Podgorica was the least exciting. The eco village accommodation in Katun Stavna was basic but fine - 4 women shared and there was a shower. The shepherds hut stay wa s fun - 3 women downstairs and 2 men in the loft. There is a good shower and toilet unit there and we had our luggage with us on all nights. Transport was a bit cramped in a mini bus with an excellent and helpful driver Ivan. There are quite a few 2-3 hour transfers but this does enable you to see a range of places and scenery. We saw a few Griffon vultures at the Uvac canyon. On the last day, for various reasons, we did not do the planned Bear Circuit but did a lovely walk to up above the Black Lake. The significant downside of the trip was our guide Michael. I am mystified by the good reviews from previous trips as our group found him detached and disinterested in the trip and group. He did not seem to enjoy his job and, on several occasions, seemed irritated with some of the decisions the group made, like stopping for a drink at the end of a walk. group
