Snowy adventure
Minya Konka Trek
This was out first trip with KE and part of a longer stay in China. We had a fantastic time and the trek was the highlight of our extended holiday. The scenery was stunning and enhanced by the heavy snow fall we got at second camp. Whilst unexpected, the tour leader was able to modify our schedule and we completed the trek by staying at the second base camp for an extra night. We had active and passive acclimatisation and didn’t suffer from any altitude sickness. The days were relatively short in terms of walking but that was good as it left time to adjust the schedule when the unexpected happened. Whilst walking poles are listed as recommended, we think they were essential. Also make sure you have a good quality thermal sleeping mat as it is cold at night. The only negative is the use of single use plastic which is common throughout China. In summary a fantastic adventure and the panda bears are very cute too!

Don't think about it, just book it
Mount Toubkal in Winter
If you're even considering this trip just go ahead and book it, it will be everything you'd hope for and more! Having never been on this type of trip before I had many worries before departure but I am so glad we booked it.

On KE Adventure - 2 KE groups completed this trip simultaneously and I'm not sure how KE decided who was put in each group. We all thought that perhaps the answers given in the "previous experience" section of the boo king form might have played a part because the groupings seemed perfect. All of our group we of similar backgrounds, ages and experience etc which made the whole trip an absolute joy.

On the itinerary - One night at each end of the trip to enjoy the madness of Marrakech, long enough to get lost in the markets and soak up the atmosphere. Two nights in the village of Ait Souka, perfect for acclimatising walks and an oasis of calm after the city. Three nights in the mountain refuge, long enough to offer the chance of 2 summits.

On the guides - Omar and Abdul were simply outstanding. Omar gave detailed nightly briefings, instructions on crampon and ice axe use, interesting details on the history, surroundings and traditions of the areas we passed through and was our bridge to the local people we encountered. Together with Abdul he guided us faultlessly through each walk, always nearby to offer a guiding hand when needed and moving at the perfect pace for the group. I was slightly worried that the second summit required a short section of scrambling but Omar and Abdul seemed to have some sort of magical sticky boots, allowing them to appear by my side every time I paused, ready to guide hands and feet to the perfect holds. I felt completely safe at all times. Always smiling, they were more than happy to answer our many questions and really made the trip for us.

On the accommodation - The hotel in Marrakech may seem a little simple on the first night and is a good 30 minute walk from the main square and markets BUT the breakfast is brilliant and by the time we returned after a week in the mountains it felt like paradise! The gite in AIt Souka is lovely, mixed rooms for up to 4 people with shared showers/toilets on each floor. It is clean, welcoming and has a suntrap roof terrace with fantastic views. The mountain refuge is incredibly well run. It holds up to 80 people in mixed dorms and has 4 toilets and 2 showers. The 3 common rooms for dining/relaxing are heated by wood stoves but the dorms and washroom are unheated. However, with 20-ish people in the same dorm it didn't take long to warm up and we ended up sleeping with the windows open! The washroom facilities are pretty rustic but the refuge staff do a great job of keeping it as clean as possible.

On the food - It is incredibly healthy! Fruit, vegetables, couscous, wholemeal breads and all in HUGE quantities. How the refuge staff in particular manage to provide such impressive spreads in such a remote and basic kitchen is a wonder. There are various stalls selling chocolate bars/crisps/cokes and freshly squeezed orange juice etc on the walk up to the refuge and at the refuge itself there is a small shop selling fizzy drinks/choc bars/crisps/toilet rolls/water.

Hints for future travellers:
Money. Take cash with you from Marrakech, there is no access to ATMs further up the mountains and you might want to buy snacks/drinks along the route or at the refuge, most things (chocolate bars, juice etc seemed to cost around 15D each) Food. There can be a long gap between the early breakfast and late lunch some days - so it might be worth taking some energy bars from home to stop any tummy rumbles. Breakfast in the gite and the refuge is quite basic, bread/jam/porridge so there isn't much chance to load up on protein for the morning.

Power. The gite has power sockets in each 4 person room and extra ones in the common area but the mountain refuge only has a few between 80 guests. Take power banks or multi-usb plugs if you think you'll need to recharge.

Luggage. We were able to leave excess luggage at both the hotel in Marrakech and the gite at Ait Souka for no charge. Things I'm glad I brought. Earplugs, hand sanitiser gel, lots of suncream, warm layers for the early starts, walking poles, extra toilet roll, tissues for streaming noses, headtorch for the morning and for the dimly-lit dorm.

This is the first guided group trip I have ever taken and I had reservations about it but it really was an excellent tour and one I would recommend to anyone.

Perfect mix of mountain trails and ancient civilisations
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek

This trip was a wonderful introduction to Jordan - combining stunning mountain trails with UNESCO world heritage sites. The food was amazing also.

An excellent introduction to winter trekking.
Mount Toubkal in Winter
Well organised and professional guide Leycen instilled confidence throughout. Gite accommodation was clean, showers available and good quality and quantity of food. Refuge was 20 bed dorm, basic toilet facilities, occasional warm shower, good lunch and dinners. Breakfast watery porridge and bread. Lunch is late afternoon while at the refuge so advise taking snacks. Chocolate, crisps, soft drinks and water available to buy at refuge. Trek was about 6 to 8 hrs walking per day. Toubkal ascent with crampons was on a par to Ben Nevis in snow all the way. Conditions were dry and sunny on our ascent with snow to aprx 3800m on North facing slopes. Ouanoukrim was my preferred day with more snow, more interesting trek and some scrambling, narrow paths and area of ridge on ascent and descent. Other group members likened it to North face of Tryfan. Highly recommend this trip and KE.

An exhilarating Moroccan experience.
Mount Toubkal in Winter
This trekking experience was more than I could have hoped for. The trip was highly organised and very well planned to give the traveller the best experience. The food was to a high standard, freshly cooked and of local cuisine. Our guide Omar was excellent. He encouraged us to ask questions about local culture and traditions while also sharing his own local knowledge and experience. As well as ensuring our well-being, Omar made us feel most welcome in his family home. He is an excellent guide, h as a very professional manner and a great asset for KE Adventure. I truly hope that his dedication to his job is being fully recognised by KE Adventure.

Everything you could want from a trek.
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
This trek has everything you would want, just the right amount of days and nights, plenty of history, landscapes that will dazzle you, a great support team that will prepare your camp for you daily and provide you with great food and you get to finish in Petra which is the ultimate prize. I would say to anyone looking at doing their first trek this is ideal and to those who are more familiar with trekking you won’t be disappointed, in fact you will likely leave feeling very spoilt. I think the trek difficulty level of 5 is very fair, it’s got enough to test you but won’t be the hardest daily walk you will have to do by comparison to other treks. My only tip would be to pack enough gear in your hand luggage to get you through the first two days in case your luggage goes missing. It’s something I used to do religiously and typically the first time I didn’t do it my bag went missing. KE did a great job chasing it down and we got by but it’s not a great position to be in. We were asked if there was anything that could be done to improve the trek and honestly we struggled to come up with anything constructive. A great trip and highly recommended.

Newbie trekkers tackle Ganesh Himal trail!
Ganesh Himal Panorama Trek
This was our first ever trekking holiday and was booked as a celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary, so we were hoping for something special. It didn’t disappoint!. KE ‘s booking system was very straight forward and always had someone on the other end of the phone to discuss any questions we had. We decided on the Ganesh Himal panorama trek as it appeared to be a good beginners trek (more on that later!). 6 people went for a trek and along came 20 others to look after us! What an amazin g team, we had every need catered for along the way – 3 hot meals a day with more than enough food to keep us going. We only came across one other group of trekkers during our 11 days, so this really did appear to be a “rarely visited” part of Nepal with amazing, friendly hard working people in the villages and along the trail. The stunning views gave us plenty of quiet contemplation time during our rest stops and lunch breaks. With mixed trekking ability (3 experienced and 3 not very experienced) our guides managed to get us all to the final destination, splitting the group and pacing each days trek to our capability. I would say this trek was a lot harder than we were expecting, but this only added to the adventure. Now, having had the experience of the trek, we can understand the notes for elevation and distance etc. that KE supply and would recommend careful study of them. Even the experienced trekkers in our group considered this to be tougher than a beginners trek. I would highly recommend KE adventure as it is a very professional company with excellent guides and trek leaders. Special thanks go to Tendi and Serki for looking after us all (lots of patience and good humour). Tim & Sue O’Hara

Interesting Family Holiday
Multi-activity Family Adventure in Poland
Interesting and varied family holiday. Krakow is a lovely place to wander. The local city guide was excellent. The salt mines were very impressive. Zakopane is very busy and touristy. The bike day and the mountain walk day were highlights. This holiday is a bit light on activities. A full day "exploring" Zakopane with an eccentric local guide was a bit of a waste as we could have done this on our own on our day off. Another proper activity day would have been welcome. The hotel was a b it faded and basic, and they cancelled the cooking session for some unknown reason. The 'highlander' visit was very good and interesting. The rafting trip was pleasant.

Just Do It
Walking New Zealand - North to South Island Explorer

If you need an introduction to NZ and prefer travelling in a group then this is the trip to take. There's a lot of travelling in the mini bus as this trip covers a lot of ground but NZ is a big place and it's worth it. Difficult to state a particulate highlight as it's all so good! Easy day and half day walks and tough days in the mountains. Varied scenery as you'd expect. It made me want to go back and soon!

Experience of a lifetime
Antarctic Hike and Sail Expedition
Nothing will prepare you this experience, icebergs, seals, whales and penguins it is all laid out in front of you. The crew were all amazing, not only did they go beyond what they needed to to make the holiday memorable they were also experts in their fields of marine life or arctic birds for example and past on their knowledge. All activities and trips to shore are weather dependant, plans will change and some trips may be cancelled. Luckily on the trip I was on they were able to fit in all th e plan activities and only 1 planned landing had to be cancelled.
Of the 7 continents I have visited this stands head and shoulders above the rest and the memories will be with me for the rest of my life.
If you do go the drakes passage is the roughest sea in the world so have plenty of sea sickness tablets with you more than half the guest got sea sickness on the way there.

Excellent trip including a trek in a remote area
Sikkim - Tosha Lake Trek
I chose the trip because the trek was in a remote area and it offered a cultural aspect. It delivered on both aspects and more because of the fantastic knowledge and organisation of our guide Rixzin and the ambiance of the whole group including the Sherpas, kitchen crew and porters.
The walking did include negotiating landslides sometimes with a small amount of exposure, loose stones, slippery paths, rocks but nothing worse than I have come across in some parts of the Lake District and Sc
otland and I loved every minute. The time spent walking each day is totally dependent on campsite location and because there was no choice somedays were short at about 4 hours and some much longer and on the shorter days we became experts at fire building helped by our local guide who had a useful large machete. We witnessed spectacular sunrises from outside the tent with views of the Kanchenjunga range and incredible night skies. The food created by the kitchen staff was amazing with so much variation that after a while I would have been happy with a plate of Dhal Bhat. During the 9 days the only people we saw were the 3 path builders so If you like the idea of remote I would recommend this trek before the path building is finished.

A memorable and life enhancing journey.
Everest the Hard Way Trek
We were initially put off by the rather pretentious name of this trek but it is essentially a clockwise version of the Three Passes trek which is the best trek in the area and excellent. There is a lot of time spent at high altitude but the acclimatization is very well managed and we felt no need to take diamox. Because the direction is clockwise acclimatization took place in the delightful and quiet valleys around Thame. We also received a blessing from the 9 yr old reincarnation lama at the m onastery there.
Every day was special but the highlights for me were the three passes rather than Everest base camp which wasn't as good as Kanchenjunga. We were fortunate in having a very good group and also very good guides. The leader Phurba Sherpa was very professional and ensured everything ran smoothly and everyone was looked after.

Excellent, very well organised tour with some great walks.
Walking New Zealand - North to South Island Explorer
Sean and Steve were brilliant guides. They were constantly thinking about the needs of the group; readjusting the schedule when it was interrupted by New Zealand's rather unpredictable weather, and finding the routes and the best spots for every stop we made. Sean's knowledge of everything kiwi was impressive - plants, animals, history and language.

The walks were well within the capability of the group, some a little testing, but nothing too tough. The weather (e.g. ver
y high winds!) was more likely to cause us to cut a walk short rather than the difficulty of the walking. The stay in the hut was great fun. The Eco Lodge on the Nydia Trek was the best stop and very magical. A gorgeous place.

New Zealand is simply amazing. Volcanoes, fjords, snow-capped mountains, .... lord of the rings eat your heart out. Don't hesitate, just go.

Challenging cycling in a lovely country
Guatemala Bike - Route of the Conquistadores

I really enjoyed this trip. Although the cycling was tough for me at times, I am pleased that I came and was not put off by the high grade of the trip. Guatemala has some wonderful countryside, scenery and unique local Mayan culture and is well worth visiting. I personally would have liked a bit more general tourism - museums, ruins etc.

Fabulous but challenging trek in Nepal
Everest the Hard Way Trek
This was my first time in Nepal and what a fantastic introduction. From being picked up at the airport to being dropped off (a wee bit lighter and looking a little more tattered around the edges), the whole trip was very well organised. Our Sherpa Phurba and his team took great care of us throughout the 3 weeks. Other reviews give a very accurate description of the trip so I don't need to cover that here. However one thing I would say is that I think the rating on this trek is too low. I di d the Classic Haute trek which is an 11 and this ranks only as a 9. While the terrain for this trip is easier with no glaciers to traverse/climb the combination of duration, altitude, cold weather (November in my case) and steep climbs make this at least as difficult in my opinion. This is also reflected in the fact that our sherpa told us we were the 1st group he has had in 10 years were everyone climbed all three passes. But please don't let that put you off - as long as you are fit and can push through difficult days, the rewards are immense. Age shouldn't be a factor either - our group of 11 was aged between 40 and 63. The only other thing to note is during this season flights to Lukla were temporarily from Ramechhap which was a 5 hour uncomfortable bus journey away from Kathmandu. I would definitely not recommend that bus journey.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you had such a great experience. In relation to the claim made by your tour leader, we should point out that although you may have been the first group he had taken over all three passes, this is not the case for KE groups in general. This was only the second 'Everest the Hard Way' group your tour leader had led for KE.
