Overview

This lodge-based trek follows the legendary 'Everest Trail' from the airstrip at Lukla. Within little more than 2 weeks, this is your chance to visit Everest Basecamp, hike up to the exceptional viewpoint of Kala Patar at sunset or sunrise and to experience the wonderful mountain scenery of the Khumbu. A memorable flight from Kathmandu to the airstrip at Lukla provides access to an alpine world where the air is crystal clear and colourful prayer flags flutter from the rooftops.

Following the famous 'Everest Trail', we trek to the prosperous village of Namche Bazaar where spend a day resting and acclimatising, before continuing our trek alongside the torrential Imja Khola to the high valley below Everest. During the course of this excellent and relatively easy-paced trek, we visit many delightful Sherpa villages, including the stunningly located Thyangboche with its famous monastery and impressive backdrop of Everest and Ama Dablam.

Two nights at Dingboche, with an excellent acclimatisation walk to Chukkung are followed by 2 short days to Dughla and then Lobuche. This gives us the best possible preparation for our final trek from Lobuche to Everest Basecamp and means we only have to spend 1 night at Gorak Shep. Providing outrageous mountain views and a wonderful insight into the way of life of the hardy Sherpas, this is the perfect trip for a first visit to Nepal and the Himalayas.

The Everest Basecamp Trek will be 16 days from 2024. Select this version on the Map & Itinerary page for details.

Generally, the trekking conditions on this Nepal holiday are relatively easy, following good paths and yak trails. Additionally, as the Khumbu is Nepal's most popular trekking destination, the area is well supplied with teashops and lodges. It should be noted, however, that trekking above 3000 metres makes greater demands on the body than walking at low elevations and can be challenging even for fit hikers. Our itinerary is well staged to allow the best possible acclimatisation and includes extra days at Namche Bazaar and at Dingboche, followed by 2 short days to Dughla and then to Lobuche. With this arrangement, our groups have the best preparation for the final approach to Everest Base Camp, with a single night at Gorak Shep and the option to hike to the viewpoint of Kala Patar for sunset or sunrise views. To get the most out of this holiday, you should be comfortable walking for around 6 hours each day and for several days continuously, with a couple of longer days. This classic walk-in to the south side basecamp of Everest should be within the capabilities of fit and active hikers.

Itinerary

Your holiday starts at the hotel in Kathmandu. Transfers from Kathmandu Airport are provided. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore the immediate vicinity of the hotel and get acclimatised to this bustling city. Alternatively, you may prefer to recover from your journey by relaxing beside the hotel pool. Your guide will take dinner with you and will provide an informal briefing about the days ahead.

After a 4am pick up from the Kathmandu hotel, we drive 5 hours to Ramechhap where we check in for a late morning, 20 minute flight to Lukla. (Outside of the peak trekking season, flights to Lukla may operate directly from Kathmandu). Landing at Lukla, on the narrow, sloping runway in the heart of the mountains, is a spectacular way to reach the Khumbu. Here, we meet our trekking crew and set off on the first stage of our trek which leads down to the river, then northwards through a number of villages to our lodge in Phakding (2610m).

A very pleasant walk by the river through pine forest leads to a short climb to escape a narrow gorge section. We pass the entrance to the Khumbu National Park where details of our permits are recorded and then drop down again to the river which we cross on a suspension bridge. We continue up the wooded valley on a good trail and cross the river again before reaching a confluence of rivers, one coming down from Thame and the other from the Khumbu. We make a final crossing here on a spectacular high suspension bridge and then begin an hour and half long ascent to Namche Bazaar (3440m) on a wide switch-back trail. This is the sting in the tail of today’s otherwise quite gentle ascent, and one of the steepest of the trek. Just over halfway up this last hill to Namche, we gain our first views of Everest. On arrival in the Sherpa capital, we check into one of the town’s many lodges. Namche has changed tremendously since trekking first became popular in Nepal. The Sherpa people are very adept at working out what visitors need. Many of the Sherpas that own lodges, cafes and shops in the town have visited cities in the USA and Europe and have brought back all sorts of concepts. Today you can find in Namche, German bakeries, Italian coffee, British pubs, pool halls, and hot tubs.

Namche Bazaar is tucked away between two ridges amongst the giant peaks of the Khumbu. An ancient market place where goods from as far away as Tibet were and still are traded, Namche today boasts an abundance of lodges, cafes, bars and souvenir shops. It is a great place to spend an acclimatisation day before going higher. The guide will be keen to take everyone on an acclimatisation walk, whether this involves going as high as the village of Khumjung (3780m) above Namche, or just to the Everest View Hotel. Either of these options provides superb views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. We spend a second night at our lodge in Namche Bazaar.

A relatively easy day of trekking, although at this altitude it will still feel tough on the uphill section to Thyangboche at the end of the day. The trail today is spectacular in terms of scenery. The main trail out of Namche heads in a northwesterly direction climbing steeply out of the town to a ridge crest where a wonderful view of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam is revealed. Our trail now follows a contour high above the river with occasional short climbs as we cross a series of ridges. At the end of this contour trail is the tiny settlement of Kangjuma where various items of local art and craft, jewelry and even yak bells are laid out to entice passing trekkers to buy a souvenir of their visit. From Kangjuma the trail descends to a bridge across the Imja River at Phunki. Beyond the river, we climb a long ridge to Thyangboche (3860m), the location of one of Nepal’s finest monasteries. We have the chance to look around the monastery and the visitor centre there. This is a popular place to overnight as it not only affords a good view of the Everest/Lhotse massif but is also the classic viewpoint for Ama Dablam. However, water is scarce here and the lodges are often crowded so we may opt to continue for a further 20 minutes, descending to a lodge beside the river at Deboche.

After breakfast at the lodge, we trek for a couple of hours to the village of Pangboche, where there is the oldest monastery in the Khumbu. An hour beyond Pangboche, there is a good lunch stop at the small Sherpa hamlet of Shomare and then it is a further 3 hours walking, gaining height very gradually, to Dingboche (4410m) at the entrance to the Khumbu Valley. We overnight in one of the relaxing lodges in this small and picturesque Sherpa village.

In accordance with our careful program of acclimatisation we will spend 2 nights at this altitude before moving further up the Khumbu Valley. To further our fitness and state of acclimatisation we will have a day hike to Chukkung (4730m) in the upper part of the Imja Valley and directly below the tremendous 3000 metre south face of Lhotse. This is a high and wild corner of the Khumbu, visited by relatively few trekkers and the views here of ice flutings and soaring, serrated mountain ridges are sensational. After a most scenic lunch stop, we retrace our steps to Dingboche to spend a second night in the Dingboche lodge. There are fantastic views towards Tibet and of Island Peak and Ama Dablam.

Today is effectively another day of acclimatisation as we make our approach to Everest Basecamp. After a leisurely breakfast, our route takes us up the Khumbu Valley on a high trail beneath Pokalde Peak (5806m) and climbs only very gradually for little more than 2 hours to the tiny settlement and lodge at Dugla (4620m) which will be our home for the night. From here, we have the option to hike up the hillside above our lodge and contour around above the glacial lake of Chola Tso at an elevation of 4800 metres. This is the well-used trail leading to the Cho La (5330m) and the summer yak grazing area of Dzonglha and we can choose just how far we want to go. There is a fantastic and ever-changing panorama across the lake to the Chola Glacier and the spectacular peak of Cholatse (6335m). We return to spend the night in Dughla.

Another short day as we ascend the Khumbu Valley, starting out with an uphill section to the Thokla Pass (4830m), where we find the memorial to those Sherpas who have died on Mount Everest. Here, the trail starts to level out and we follow the lateral moraine on the west side of the Khumbu Glacier to our lodge in Lobuche (4910m) which we reach well before lunch. The collection of lodges at Lobuche occupies a rocky, streamside location surrounded by towering peaks including Pumori (7161m), Nuptse (7861m) and Lhotse (8516m).

Heading north, we follow a trail through the ablation valley at the side of the Khumbu Glacier. We cross the rubble of a tributary glacier and get our first views of the Khumbu Glacier stretching away down valley and up towards the area of basecamp. After around 5 kilometres walking, we pass the island of sparse grasses at the place known as Gorak Shep (5140m), once a summer yak pasture in the middle of nowhere and now home to some of the highest lodges in Nepal. It's just another 3 kilometres or so to Everest Basecamp (5364m), walking at first on the moraine crest and finally on the Khumbu Glacier itself. We will spend some time at this inspirational spot, close beneath the stupendous Khumbu Icefall, before retracing our steps to Gorak Shep and our lodge. The lodges at Gorak Shep are quite basic but they do have heated dining rooms and offer a degree of comfort. For anyone with energy to spare, there's the option in the late afternoon to hike to the top of the prominent Kala Patar (5550m) for the sunset views.

The views from Kala Patar are just as impressive in the early morning and the 3 kilometre round trip to the top (with 410 metres of ascent) will take around 2 to 3 hours for those who are up for the pre-dawn start. Then after breakfast at the lodge we will make the long and quite gradual descent of the Khumbu Valley via Lobuche and Pheriche (4240m). Overlooked by striking peaks including the very impressive Ama Dablam, we continue our walk-out as far as Pangboche (3940m) where we check in at our lodge.

Leaving Pangboche we follow an excellent trail that contours the hillside and leaves the main Everest Trail far below it. On this trail we have great views across to Thyangboche Monastery beneath the towering face of Kang Taiga. After a couple of hours walking, we pass through the less often visited and still quite traditional village of Phortse (3810m) at the mouth of the Gokyo Valley. From here we make a long descent to the Dudh Kosi River and, crossing this on a simple bridge, begin the steady 400 metre climb on a switch-back trail up to the Mon La (3900m). From here we descend to rejoin the main Everest Trail and continue to Namche Bazaar (3400m) which we reach after 4 or 5 hours. The Sherpa capital is a great place in which to celebrate our trekking achievements and after checking in at our lodge there will be plenty of time for sightseeing and souvenir buying in the afternoon. Overnight in Namche.

This is the final day of our Everest trekking experience, as we descend, steeply at first, to the trail beside the Dudh Kosi. We cross the river a couple of times on bridges and after 2 hours reach the village of Monjo. Continuing our trek and descending more gradually, the valley becomes more enclosed as we pass Phakding. After a stop for lunch, we continue on the river's true left bank to Chopling (2660m) where we begin the final climb of the trip (the sting in the tail) with a 45 minute steady ascent up to the airstrip at Lukla. Arriving at this bustling airstrip settlement, we check in at our lodge and have some free time. In the evening we will no doubt have a party to celebrate the end of a great trek and to say goodbye to our trek crew.

The group will meet at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Transfers are provided from/to Kathmandu Airport for all clients arriving on Day 1 of the Land Only itinerary and departing on the last day of the Land Only itinerary.

Hotel contact details and an emergency number will be provided with your booking confirmation.

All meals on trek and breakfasts in Kathmandu are included. On trek the group will take their meals at lodges. Normally this will be a set meal for the whole group. Boiled or purified water is available at all the lodges we stay at. Bottled water is also available to purchase (at additional cost) but we do not recommend this on grounds of environmental care.

It is not recommended to drink untreated water from the taps. If you are on a trekking or cycling holiday, water is supplied to fill up your individual bottles. This will be boiled, filtered or provided in large jerry cans or 5 litre bottles. Additionally you should take purification tablets or a filter bottle (such as a Water-To-Go bottle) to treat your water when in towns or where water is not supplied. We do not encourage the purchasing of single use plastic bottles.

Typical meals provided in the lodges will include some Nepali dishes but also international cuisine from pizza and chips to apple pie. To ensure that the group can eat together, we order meals in advance and your trip leader will arrange a set menu for the group, which will alternate daily between local and international dishes. Breakfast will usually be porridge, eggs, bread and a hot drink, lunch will be a simple meal with a hot drink, and dinner will be 3 courses consisting of soup, main meal and a simple pudding. If you wish to order additional dishes and/or snacks, you should budget accordingly. Boiled drinking water will be provided at breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the lodges and tea-houses sell snacks, chocolate bars, soft drinks and beer. In Kathmandu we take our meals in the hotel and local restaurants.

In Kathmandu we use comfortable 4 and 5 star accommodation including the Hotel Shanker. Located in the heart of the city, this hotel offers a range of first-class facilities including a pleasant tree-shaded garden area complete with swimming pool. Whilst on trek we stay in good local lodges. Accommodation is generally arranged on a twin sharing basis and if you are travelling by yourself you will usually be paired up with someone of the same sex. Please note that at one or two of the higher lodges we may be forced to use multi-bedded rooms. Nepalese trekking lodges are simple, friendly and atmospheric. They generally have heated dining areas which are often attractively decorated. Bedrooms are, however, basic and unheated with wooden beds and foam mattress. You will need a sleeping bag. The lodges have shared washing and toilet facilities. Some lodges have solar powered showers (charged at $4 - $5 per shower) and battery charging facilities (also charged at a rate per hour). Staying at the lodges is a great way to meet fellow hikers and the locals. For the 3 nights in Kathmandu single rooms are available for a supplementary cost. It is not possible to arrange single accommodation in lodges. Additional hotel nights in Kathmandu can also be pre-booked.

Access to the high and remote areas of the Himalaya where our treks start is often only possible using internal flights. The changeable nature of mountain weather makes flying conditions complex. In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal does not operate to the same standards as those of western nations and all airlines in Nepal appear on the UK Air Safety List (ASL), and are banned from operating commercial air services to, from, and within the United Kingdom. Flying in Nepal is an acknowledged risk, and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice provides further details which you can read on their website. KE is mindful of its duty of care to clients travelling with us in Nepal and we are stakeholders in an annual independent air audit of Nepal airlines undertaken by UK tour operators, most recently undertaken in February 2024. KE uses 5 airlines in Nepal which have been approved by this audit. These airlines are: Buddha Air, Summit Airlines, Shree, Tara and Yeti. We continue to cooperate with other tour operators to monitor aviation safety in Nepal and will ensure we remain a stakeholder in any further air safety audits. While we have taken appropriate action to try to minimise the risks of flying in Nepal, you should be aware that flying in mountainous terrain is not without any risk.

Please note that poor weather can cause delays on internal flights. If at the start of your holiday internal flights are cancelled for the day, you will spend an extra night near the airport (this may be at a hotel other than the group hotel). On the majority of trips there is enough flexibility in the trekking itinerary to make up 1 or possibly 2 lost days, but an alternative trek will be provided if delays to internal flights mean the original itinerary (or a shortened version of it) is no longer feasible.

For trips that end with an internal flight out of the mountains with no alternative road access, we have included 2 nights in Kathmandu as a contingency against delay. In the extremely unlikely event that a delay to your internal flight causes you to miss your homeward international flight, KE will re-book international flights for Flight Inclusive clients, but please be aware that clients booking on a Land Only basis will be responsible for re-booking their onward travel and for any associated costs. We advise you to take out suitable travel insurance and to keep your receipts, as you may subsequently be able to make a claim.

The group will be led by a professional and qualified Nepalese tour leader, assisted by an experienced team including Sherpa guides and porters.

This holiday involves going to very high altitude. During the course of your trip you will be spending at least one night above 4000 metres and/or trekking to 5000 metres or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules in order to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude. Unless you have previous experience of trekking above 4000 metres you should consult one of our trekking experts before embarking on this holiday. On this trip we carry a portable altitude chamber (PAC-bag) and/or bottled oxygen for use in emergencies.

Approximately £200 to £250 (or equivalent in US dollars, Euros etc.) should be allowed for miscellaneous expenses including porter and trek crew tips, beer, soft drinks etc. It is not necessary to obtain local currency prior to departure. Sterling, US Dollars and Euros are equally acceptable for exchange in Nepal. Please note: Scottish and Northern Ireland bank notes are not accepted in Nepal. We recommend that you carry your travel money in the form of cash, since you will exchange the majority of this on the day of your arrival in Kathmandu. If you prefer not to carry all of your spending money in cash, it is possible to withdraw money from ATMs in Kathmandu using your debit or credit card. During the trek it is possible to buy snacks, chocolate, soft drinks and beer on most days. Please be aware that since everything has to be carried up, these items become more expensive as you gain altitude.

Tipping is the accepted way of saying thank you for good service. Normally the porters and any other trek staff are given their tips at the end of the trek and this is best done as a group. Your Nepali tour leader will advise the group on an appropriate level of tipping. Most groups will hand out the tips with a bit of ceremony (or sometimes a party) on the last evening, to mark the end of the holiday. As a guide, we recommend that each group member contributes around £70 (in rupees) to these tips. At the end of their trek many people also like to donate various items of equipment to the porters and trek staff who work so hard to make the trip a success. Boots, gloves, hats, scarves and even socks are always warmly received by the porters. Your tour leader will make arrangements for a fair distribution (possibly by raffle) amongst the trek crew. Please note that you will have the opportunity to tip your tour leader separately (and additionally) during dinner on the final evening of the holiday.

Our holidays are normally designed with minimal 'down time' at the start of the trip, but having a day or two at the beginning will have the additional benefit of allowing you time to get over the stress of a long journey or travelling across time zones, leaving you refreshed and ready for your holiday. We can easily arrange for you to have additional nights and airport transfers.

Your main item of luggage should be a sturdy kit bag, duffle bag or similar. This will be carried during the trek by porters or pack animals and must weigh no more than 15kg. If you are picking up a sleeping bag and down jacket from KE in Kathmandu, you need to factor in the weight of these items (around 3kg) and allow space in your bag for them. You should also take on your holiday a daypack of approximately 30 litres capacity. For all flights to and from STOL airstrips in Nepal the maximum allowance for hold baggage AND hand baggage combined is 15kg and you should make every effort to keep to this total weight. It is usually not a problem to check in a couple of kg more than this, but you may be required to pay a small excess luggage charge. It is possible to leave items not required on trek at the hotel in Kathmandu. For your international flights, please check the baggage allowance with your airline.

For each holiday there is a minimum number of participants required to enable it to go ahead. Once the minimum number is reached, the trip status will change from 'Available' to 'Guaranteed to run'. You can check the trip status for each departure in the ‘Dates and Prices’ table. Other than in exceptional circumstances, we will not cancel a trip once it has achieved this guaranteed to run status so you are free to proceed with your international flight booking and other travel arrangements.

The information that we provide is for UK passport holders. A passport with 6 months remaining validity at the end of your stay is generally required, and you should have at least 2 blank pages for each country that you visit.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct travel documents and visas for your holiday. Please ensure that you check for the latest advice before travel. For the most up to date information on entry requirements, please visit the UK Government website.

If you are travelling via India (Delhi or Calcutta) to your destination you may also require a visa for India. This may apply even if you are not leaving the airport unless your baggage has been checked all the way through to your destination. Generally, if you use the same carrier for both legs of your journey, you will not need an India Visa. Please download the detailed information document: Visa PDF India.

Visa Nepal

All nationalities require a visa. The visa process is partly automated and the fee is $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, $125 for 90 days. The visa is FREE for children under 10 years. The visa allows multiple re-entry. Payment must be made in cash and USD, GBP or Euros are accepted.

Part of this on-arrival visa process involves filling in a ‘Tourist Visa Application Form’ and you can simplify the procedure at Kathmandu Airport by filling this form in online (within 15 days of travelling) at this link. This generates a receipt which you present (hard copy or saved on your phone) on arrival. This should allow you to go straight to the cashier to pay for your visa and has the potential to save you time in the visa queue.

Whilst these are not now needed for the visa process, we recommend that you travel with at least 2 spare passport photographs.

TREKKING PERMITS – WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU ?

For treks in the Everest region – EBL, EVL, EHW, ELL - we need your passport details and we need you to take with you to Nepal 2 passport photographs. You will hand these over to your local leader on Day 1.

Please send this to us once your holiday is guaranteed.

For these Conservation Area treks and other treks requiring Special Permits – KAN, DLG, NAP – we need to send through to Nepal ahead of your departure a scan of a passport-style photograph of yourself and a scan of the information pages of your passport. Please send these to us once your holiday is guaranteed. On arrival in Kathmandu you will still be required to provide your passport (with your visa) for presentation at the Nepal Tourism Board. Your passport will be returned to you by your tour leader at dinner.

For those trips requiring Climbing Permits – MER, IPC, CTL, YAR - we need to send to Nepal ahead of your departure, a scan of a passport-style photograph of yourself and a scan of the information pages of your passport. Please send these to us once your holiday is guaranteed. If you have a severe allergy please inform the KE office before you travel. We will do all we can to help, but we cannot guarantee an allergy free environment on KE trips. You will need to carry your own treatment for the allergy with you, as 'adrenaline auto-injectors' are not carried as standard by KE leaders and staff. You should inform your leader on arrival of your allergy, and let them know where you keep your adrenaline pen.

Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

Vaccinations

You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you require any specific vaccinations or other preventive measures. You should be up to date with routine courses and boosters as recommended in the UK e.g. diphtheria-tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella, along with hepatitis A and typhoid.

Malarial prophylaxis is not usually required for trips in the mountains, however if you are visiting rural and remote low lying areas then they might be necessary.

On holidays to more remote areas you should also have a dentist check up. A good online resource is Travel Health Pro.

The unit of currency in Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee.

It makes a lot of sense to spend some time before coming on a trekking holiday getting some additional exercise. The fitter you are, after all, the more enjoyable you will find the experience. Although the trekking on this trip is not difficult or sustained, hiking at altitude is more demanding than similar terrain at lower elevations. We suggest that you adopt a weekly exercise regime leading up to your trip. Regular hiking in hilly country is the best training but any regular exercise such as cycling, running or swimming is also good for developing cardio vascular fitness and stamina. Before coming on the trip we recommend that you make time for some longer walks in hilly country. It is also a good idea to do some reading about the culture of Nepal and of the Sherpa people who live in the Everest region. There are many books on this subject and some are listed here.

October through to May is the best time for trekking in Nepal. These months outside of the summer monsoon season offer the best conditions for trekking. Pre-monsoon from March to May is the main climbing season for Everest and at this time there will be many expeditions at basecamp. This is also the time to see the colourful blooms of the rhododendron at lower elevations. The post-monsoon months usually offer the clearest skies and the most settled weather. You will encounter a wide range of daytime temperatures during your holiday. In October/November and April/May this will range from approximately 25C in Kathmandu to approximately 14C at 3000 metres, and approximately 3C at 5000m. From December to early April, temperatures will average around 5C lower than this but at any time of the year the real feel temperature in the middle of the day will be much warmer. At night in the rarefied air the temperatures plummet. You can expect to experience overnight temperatures below freezing once above approximately 4200 metres. (above 3000 metres from mid December to February) and at our highest overnight stops, outside temperatures may drop as low as minus 15C. Extended periods of rain or snow are very unlikely outside of the monsoon period but short-lived storms can and do occur.

Everest Basecamp Trek ★★★★★

Trek was well organised, friendly and helpful KE staff at the head office and the itinerary was spot on. Milan was a charming amd professional leader. Paramount to him was the welfare of the group ensuring at all times we were ok. His knowledge of the mountains was second to none. Milan was also mindful of the wellbeing of the assistants that carried our luggage and the other guides who accompanied us. Milan was First Class.

Top quality ★★★★★

The service provided on the holiday was top quality - and clearly better than the customers of other operators received. Hotels - were fine and appeared to be pretty much the best circumstances permitted. The very highest altitude stops were very basic - no-one could describe themselves as very satisfied by them. Food - a lot of menus were limited but the service was always good and the quality as good as could be expected. Milan was rigorous re pre dinner sanitising. It felt a lot to start with but no one had any food related infection on the party. Transport - met at the airport well. The transfer to the regional airport outwards was tough only a few hours after arriving but added to the holiday insight / experience. Strong leadership got us through airports quickly. Itinerary - the variations on the route on the way back from EBC were particularly good especially the trek to Namche via Phortse. I think this is the best single walk I’ve ever done for views. Pre trip information - re the flight variation was good and clear. The tour leader Milan made the trip. He controlled the group very well and its speed of travel.

Extremely well organised. Sonam was an extremely professional, knowledgable and experienced guide. We also enjoyed evening talks on topics such as Buddhism, mountaineering and the caste system which enhanced our knowledge and understanding of Nepal. Sonam made this a once in a lifetime holiday! Highlight - The journey itself, following in the footsteps of mountaineers and learning about the sherpa people.

Excellent

An excellent trip to Everest Base Camp. A slight delay at Ramchap which resulted in us missing our first day trek from Lukla to Pakding but we made up later on combining two short days into one. However we felt lucky considering the previous weeks delay’s which caused havoc to some trekkers plans. Our Trek onwards was flawless with excellent weather conditions. All this made more special thanks to our guide Pasang and his magnificent team of Ang ( Assistant Guide) and Porters Manila & Macendra. Pasang's attention to detail, local knowledge, care and professionalism was second to none. I have traveled far and wide around the world and Pasang and his team are the best I’ve ever had. Be prepared for basic accommodation in Gorak Shep near EBC. Our lodge was overcrowded, cold and restrooms sadly very un-hygienic compared to our previous lodgings. One other uncomfortable thing was that we sadly learnt that our Guides had to sleep outside in Tents in -15 weather conditions due to overcrowding in the accommodation, something that didn’t sit well with our group and find unacceptable. Our trek up Kala Pattar was a memorable one but be prepared for very cold temperatures if doing the sunrise trek (-15). Highly recommended Trek but room for improvement with regards to Guide and Porters accommodation standards. Sad to see the all inclusive Meal deal has been removed from 2024 dates onwards, this alone was a deal breaker for me when booking this trip. Paul Burgess.

An epic adventure thank you KE
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
An Epic Adventure, thank you KE! We completed our Everest Base Camp Trek with KE in October 2022, having postponed twice due to Covid. KE is an excellent company who from the beginning when our Qatar flight was over 24hr delayed were extremely helpful and accommodating. KE arranged for us to have an internal flight to the Himalayas, and one of the guides waited behind for us and we were able catch up with our group, with no detriment to our trek/ acclimatisation. The lodges you stay in during th is trek are basic, but cosy, and we played cards every evening with our guides whilst warming by the fire. Our group was six hikers, which was a perfect amount. Despite what the overview states, there is a wide variety of food available at the lodges (although most people are vegetarian whilst on the mountain, due to meat not being fresh) Our group leader Pasang Sherpa, our assistant guide Neema and our porters were excellent. All the staff, particularly Pasang were extremely accommodating and absolutely made the trip. Pasang has excellent local knowledge and went out of his way to made sure we had an amazing and stress-free trip. Thank you Pasang! The trek itself is beautiful, with absolutely stunning scenery that you will see. Unlike the pictures and videos we saw, we would have all four seasons across most of our days, so good clothing is essential! We are regular hikers across the UK and this definitely helped with our fitness/ resilience to the daily hikes and inclines. The altitude is challenging the higher you get, but none of our group suffered with any altitude sickness. If you’re considering booking onto this trip, I would definitely recommend booking with KE and if you enjoy hiking, you will love this trek. We will definitely be booking with KE again in the future. everything I hoped for
★ ★ ★ ★
We have just finished a 18 day EBC trip. It was amazing and I think the best tip I could give is go with the flow. KE can not arrange things to a pin point accuracy, it simply is not that sort of country. The flights we had originally were changed because Jet airways went bust, this was a bit disappointing as it added time to our journey and KE will only use certain airlines. If I was being picky I would question who determines the budget when you are there and if there is a dollar to be saved i s it because the guide can save it or because he has been told to save it? Its hard, its worth it.

Father and daughter adventure of a lifetime. Thank you, KE!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
My father and I participated in the Trek to Everest Base Camp with KE Adventure, travelling in May, 2019. While the trek itself was challenging (and rewarding!), KE saw to our needs throughout the entire experience with professionalism and enthusiasm. We had one lead guide and 3 assistant guides; with 10 travelers in our group this was about 1 guide per 3 travelers. Many things stand out about the company but I wanted to highlight a few that really helped make our trip a good experience. Accommo dations - KE chose clean and comfortable accommodations. We stayed in a luxury hotel in Kathmandu with meal services included. On the mountain, we stayed in mountain lodges ("teahouses") throughout. Rooms were shared twin beds, which came with a mattress and duvet. A sleeping bag is recommended for warmth but otherwise it was incredibly comfortable to have a room to yourself and a partner. They do not do mixed gender rooms so I shared with another woman on our trek and my dad shared with another man. Bathrooms varied in quality - few toilets are flush on the mountains but our guides were always helpful in pointing out toilets and always had hand sanitizer at the ready for us prior to meals! Meals - My father and I follow a vegan diet and the KE guides were very helpful in pointing out vegetarian/vegan options and even going out of their way to create meals for us out of the ingredients available up at 4000 m! For each meal you could order off the menu at the tea houses; KE included breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as afternoon tea. The guides also filled up our water bottles for us so we did not have to purify our water. Meals were always delivered on time, and of high quality. We were served by our assistant guides who worked with speed and professionalism. Yaks - Our larger bags were carried by yaks accompanied by a Yak guide. This was reliable - one day the yaks could not cross the passage and our assistant guides carried our essentials for us on their backs until we could reunite with the yaks. The animals were treated with care and our bags always arrived on time. Safety - The guides were well trained in mountain safety. Our group was very eager and enthusiastic to climb but they managed to curb our enthusiasm and ensure we did not climb too fast. While this made for some slower early days, we appreciated it when we got to higher altitude without being ill. The guides watched for the safety and health of each individual climber and adjusted the schedule and pacing depending on how the group was doing. I always felt safe and looked after; I knew I could ask questions if I had any, and many other travelers used medications/first aid as needed. We also had our own driver in Kathmandu and our guide stayed with us during flights/travel to ensure safety at all times. It is clear that KE has been running this trip for several years and has gained experience in what tends to help clients be successful. We all wanted to reach basecamp and by taking it slow and guiding us appropriately, we did it! Overall, we had an incredibly memorable experience and appreciate KE providing support ahead of, during, and after the trip. There were some hiccups, but KE did its best to address it. Ahead of the trip for example, we learned that our itinerary had to change due to an airport closure. KE communicated this by email and created an alternative plan. During the trip, my father lost his luggage (delayed during a layover) - the KE guides had it delivered to us all the way in Namche Bazar! They took on duties as needed to make our stay comfortable. Finally, after the trek, we and the others in our group were interested in exploring Kathmandu. Our guide arranged for a driver to take us to 3 temples and do a driving tour. Thus, throughout our entire stay the KE guides "took us under their wing" and helped us to immerse ourselves in the Nepali culture and way of life. Thank you KE for helping us fulfill our dream of reaching basecamp. We would definitely recommend travelling with you to other friends and for anyone else who wants to challenge themselves with a big adventure - YOU have to do the climbing and put in the hard work, but KE will take care of everything else :D.

Reaching base camp was the goal. But the journey there and back was more than I had dreamed of. To experience the culture, share this with a fantastic group of likeminded people, interact with the locals and learn about their way of life, walk across suspension bridges, visit Buddhist and Hindu temples, was a real joy and privilege. All of this, in one of the most beautiful scenic settings I have ever seen.

Great Adventure and challenge.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
We had a great holiday and trek to Everest Base Camp. The trip was very well organised and Milan the guide and all Sherpas were very efficient and friendly. The problems caused by the partial closure of the Kathmandu Airport runway were well addressed by KE. I had thought at the time that an alternative to the long bus journey and lost day could have been a helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla at an extra cost to each of us. However if only one of the group had not agreed to this I do under stand that it couldn’t have happened. Also I believe it would have needed 2 helicopters. All in all it was a great trip with a group of great people. Thanks to KE for the meal in a lovely restaurant in Kathmandu as a nice gesture after our long delay in Lukla. Peter Reed.

Outstanding holiday trekking to Everest Base Camp
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
This was an exceptional trip and well organised by KE. Our head Sherpa guide, Prem was phenomenal, with a wealth of knowledge and experience. The scenery was stunning and the locals are very friendly. I would recommend KE as a tour company to anyone, their professionalism is exemplary. Would also definitely recommend to those who have not travelled much nor been on an adventure like this before, doing plenty of research and getting tips on how to pack lightly, but still have some comforts. Getti ng the right clothing & equipment - being well prepared, makes all the difference.

Amazing
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Well organised and very professionally run (our Guide from start to finish - Raj was absoultely brilliant; he and his assistants Rai, Bim and Sudeep could not have been better). Accommodation was as good as is possible on the trails and we were always well informed with the plan for the next day and the food at the teahouses was good too (not gourmet but then we didn't expect that anyway - it's all got to be carried up by Yak, horse, donkey or Sherpa!) Highly recommended - there's a lot of walking, some quite hard going, but then that's what you should expect on a trip like this. If you've ever thought you might like it then you will absolutely love it; completely brilliant trip. (Made extra special by my 11 companions on the trek, we all got along really well and enjoyed each others company - this bit's the luck of the draw but it helped make a good trip truly great for me.)

Dream come true
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Trekking trip to Himalayas was always my dream destination, and April proved to be an amazing time to visit Nepal. I was nervous about long trip at first, especially that I have never traveled on my own that far, but first out of the Kathmandu airport I was welcomed by Sherpa Prem, who was a leader of my trip. Prem and his two assistants - Saroj and Kalem, were looking after us along the trek, and I can't imagine more attentive, warm, welcoming, and helpful team. Guiding the group, assistin g with meals and lodges arrangement, and genuinely caring for everyone to have the best experience during the trek. Prior to the trip I have contacted KE office several times and every time chat was informative and helpful, so I felt well prepared for my journey. I also appreciate time planned to acclimatise - I believe this was essential for the group to become comfortable with the altitude, and as result, helped us to reach our basecamp destination. Overall the trip was everything I expected and more - views are breathtaking, experience unforgettable, people kind... so just to warn everyone - really hard to come back to reality after 3 weeks of such life changing experience!

Superb trip through the high mountains
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
A splendid trip. The Everest Base Camp title rather undersells what is a superb walk up the Khumbu valley, close to most impressive mountains all the way above Namche. Ama Dablam in particular is supremely beautiful. A well-organised trek taken at an appropriate acclimatisation pace so that everyone completed it. It is a good feature that it descends the valley mostly on different trails to the ascent. The belvedere paths on the two days down to Namche are especially fine. Pasang Rinji Sherpa, o ur trek leader gave a masterclass in leadership. Always positive, confident and knowledgeable; superbly supportive of those of us who were weakening, and all done with a light touch. Ably supported by Mingma and Little Pasang he set the tone and made the trip special.

Had an amazing time achieving a life long dream and walking into EBC. I would recommend KE to anyone; the professional team ( Kami and his team ) not only made us so welcome but brought us up the mountain in a planned controlled way so we had no altitude issues. We met others on our trip who went up a day faster than us and we met on the way down and they were definitely suffering from altitude. Although cold above 4,000m I would recommend Feb ,no crowds air is so clear, views breathtaking. If a 62 year old with a tin hip can do it, anyone can. Nigel

Cannot stop bleating about this trip since returning and have already booked another trip with KE Adventure as a result. The organisation, itinerary, service and value for money was exceptional. From beginning to end, our Sherpa guides were attentive, helpful, polite and kept us really well informed. Although challenging conditions in December, heading to Base Camp over Christmas meant that the routes and tea houses were quiet. At times we had the tails and Mountains to ourselves. In brief, a su perb trip with a superb company. Would not take a chance on going with anyone else!

A Dream Come True

This was my first ever multi-day trek and I was a solo traveller. I had the most incredible time on this trip; from the Sherpa team to the other trekkers it was a first class experience. The knowledge and organisational skills from the Sherpa team really did help make this a memorable experience. I cannot recommend this trip enough. Thanks KE!

For a trip in November take plenty of light warm clothing eg tee shirts and vests, and socks . Tinned meat and fish would be great as a veggie diet has its limitations the higher you go. Believe me ,,, the effort and exertion is very much worth it .

Good adventure to a stunning part of the world with a lovely group of strangers.

Had a wonderful group (just 10 of us) and a good laugh that made for a memorable trip. Trip was well organised and excellently supported by the Sherpa team, led by Lhapkha, who were very kind, helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. Fantastic scenery and experience even if the route was busy with other trekkers and very dusty at times (you need that buff!). Bedrooms chilly but fine once in sleeping bag, but main dining room warm and plenty of food at meal times. Bathroom facilities often very basi c and not always running water, so you need hand sanitizer and wet wipes. I was affected by altitude, as indeed most of us were to varying degrees, despite good slow pace. Agree with others - take plenty of your own painkillers, Lemsips, throat sweets and Vicks/tiger balm. But you can't but help have a wonderful time!

10/10 For me a true experience, i have never attempted something like this nor ever dreamed of joining a bunch of like minded people in such an adventure. No matter what you read, its hard and Altitude sickness is a real leveller, the fast got slow and the slow found pace. Whatever your level of fitness you wont be prepared so just do it! Loved every minute!

The kit list was excellent and an accurate representation of what was needed. The guides were excellent, very experienced and attentive to everyone eating and drinking the required amounts of food and drink needed to complete the trip. A special Thanks for organising sparkling sunshine for the duration :-)

A once in a lifetime experience
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I'd wanted to do the trek to Everest Base Camp for years, so this was a big thing for me to finally save up and book it - and it didn't disappoint. On arrival in Kathmandu, we were met by Milan, our leader. We somehow ended up tipping quite a lot (£10-15) to a porter to carry our bags to the waiting taxi bus (who sort of looks like a KE rep working under the leader's instruction, and then turns out not to be!), but this seemed to happen to everyone, and appears to be unavoidable! ! But then after that, we were taken to our hotel to check-in. We regrouped at 6pm to be give our sleeping bags, jackets, maps, and a short briefing, and then we went for dinner. The next day we were up early for the flight to Lukla, with take-away breakfast boxes from the hotel in hand. Check-in for the flight is chaotic, but Milan took care of everything. The combined weight allowance for your kit bag & day pack is 15 kilos, but as Milan advised us, you can take your big jacket, water bottles, cameras etc. out of the bags and just hold them for two minutes while the bags are weighed, and then you're good! The flights leave when they can, so weather or flight traffic can keep you waiting (we were sat on the tarmac of the runway in a bus for an hour waiting for air traffic to clear!), so don't expect a timetable! The flight itself was incredible - terrifying and fun at the same time, with amazing views. Off the flight, we had a quick breather and a cup of tea at a lodge in Lukla, with a chance to repack our bags, apply suncream, and then meet our Sherpa team. Then we were off on the first day’s trekking! Each day after that started with breakfast - porridge, followed by toast and eggs, and black tea or coffee. Sometimes we were able to have Tibetan bread with breakfast instead, which I loved. Your kit bags are carried by porters or by yaks (or Zopkio in our case, a yak-cow cross - the Sherpas will teach you the words for things!) - which is another reason to try to stick to the 15kilo limit! The Sherpas or the trip leader pace the walking really well, at a steady pace that suits the group, so that you largely stay together as a group, and it helps you acclimatise well. This meant I got a lot less tired in my legs than I was expecting to during the trip, which was great. We typically stopped for a cup of tea at 10-11am, and then lunch between 12-1. The Sherpas choose the food for you - it will mostly be carbs for energy! Lots of potatoes, noodles, pasta, and momo, and there was veg with every meal. All the lodges and tea houses sell biscuits and chocolate if you want extra snacks. The length of the trekking days vary, but we never arrived at our lodge later than about 4.30pm. We were provided tea and biscuits at 5pm, and then dinner typically around 6.30pm-7pm, depending on how early the next day’s start was. Dinner was usually 3 courses, with a soup, main, and then dessert or fruit to finish. The dining rooms in the tea houses were normally nice and warm, with stoves in the middle of the room that you could warm up next to. The rest of the lodge is unheated, and can get really cold at night, but the KE sleeping bags were plenty warm enough once you were in them - we were also provided with a fleece liner for them, but I never needed to use mine. Most lodges also provided a blanket on the bed as well, for extra warmth. The trekking itself was brilliant - the scenery was absolutely beautiful - there are no words really, and photos don't really do it justice either! but for the first fews days, honestly I was on the verge of tears more than once at just how spectacular it was. I loved walking through the Sherpa villages, which were very pretty, and the locals are very friendly and always smiling, and I also loved feeling so far away from everything - no cars, tvs, or screens. Most villages have a few shops where you can buy things if needed - and Namche Bazaar has everything. If you forget something, or decided you do need some extra clothing/socks/hats/trekking poles, you can buy plenty of nice things there. The views of the mountains are incredible - Milan and our Sherpa team made sure to teach us the names of all the mountains and the villages you can see down through the valley. As we got higher, most of us had some mild symptoms from the altitude - headaches, finding it harder to breath, and a bit tricky to sleep sometimes, but we were all in the same boat. Our guide constantly checked in with us, and was watching for any more serious signs of acute mountain sickness, but we were all fine. The day we trekked to Everest Base Camp was a long one, but it is worth it to finally make it - you won’t forget it! The next day’s early morning climb up Kala Pather was tougher - only half of the group decided to go for it. You get up around 4am to start - breakfast is not provided as the lodge dining room is closed, so it’s worth stocking up on some biscuits the day before, if you want to eat on the way up. Climbing up on the dark and seeing the sun gradually peer up behind the mountains is amazing, although I would say I found the climb very tough just down to the altitude, as I was really struggling to catch my breath towards the top, so for me it was less enjoyable than getting to Base Camp itself. But, the views are beautiful, so it’s worth giving a go! Once we were back down, we had breakfast at the lodge, and then we started the descent. This trek takes an alternative route for part of the descent back to Lukla, which is brilliant. You visit a couple of villages just slightly off the beaten track, and the high trail to Phortse village is spectacular. Back in Kathmandu, we had some free time to explore, and there was also an optional sightseeing trip with visited Boudha and Bhaktapur. I would fully recommend the trip, although ours did run over, meaning we had less free time on that day, so it is worth bearing that in mind. Overall, this trip was fantastic. I had never booked a group holiday or a trekking holiday before, and I was a bit apprehensive, but having done this one I would now definitely book another, and would go with KE. And I really want to go back to Nepal!

A well organised trip and one off the bucket list
★ ★ ★ ★ ★

From day one of booking I had nothing but good experience with KE; all my enquiries were answered promptly. This expedition was very well organised and the KE staff on site (Guide, Sherpas, Porters and Yak man) worked well together. A few of the Lodges were lacking in toilet facilities, but that's understandable considering where we were. Altogether a great trip that my son and me enjoyed immensely. Only problem now is where next! :-)

wonderful experience
★ ★ ★ ★ ★

1. Superb sherpa assistants, Pasang, Phruba, and N, hired by our guide Raj. 2. Wonderful KE staff, polite and speedy in answering all the questions. 3. Good trip planning, except the last leg of climbing -- after the exhausting trekking to EBC, none of us could get up next morning to climb again to see the sunrise. 4. The free rental of clean and warm sleeping bags and down jackets were so helpful. 5. Overall the view, the Sherpa culture, and the challenge make this the most memorable trip.

Awesome from start to finish
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
My husband and I completed this amazing trek in Mar / Apr. We were looked after brilliantly from start to finish by the KE team in Nepal. An amazing country, fantastic experience which we loved every minute of. The arrival in Kathmandu felt a little intimidating after a long flight, but we were soon met by a driver and delivered to the Yak and Yeti hotel where we met Raj who would lead us brilliantly for the trip. The flight to Llukla is an experience but not as scary as some of the Youtube vide os made me think! Walking literally from the airport is unique. The trail and walking is generally quite easy going with just a couple of steeper sections on a couple of days. Most days we were completed by lunchtime with the option of an acclimatisation walk in the afternoons. It's the altitude which gets to you but Raj and his team encouraged us to adopt a very very slow pace and everyone managed fine. The first suspension bridge is the worst - get over that one and you're fine! There is so much to see on the trail with all the stupas, mountains, prayer flags, wildlife - we were just before the rhododendrons bloomed but you could tell they would be amazing in flower. The trail was very very busy with other trekkers and for the first half is through many villages - its certainly not a 'wilderness' experience. The accommodation was better than I expected. The rooms are basic but meet the needs and all were as clean as you could expect in the environment. A tip I picked up before going was to take your own pillow case which I was grateful for. The rooms were cold, we often woke with ice on the inside of the windows, but the main common areas were always warm. Its worth taking a pack of cards for evening entertainment - we had a great UK - US school running most nights! The food is fine - limited variety but all tasted good. With the teams guidance we were all vegetarian for the trip with just one in eight experiencing any tummy issues. Constant use of hand sanitiser is recommended too. All the lodges sell UK chocolate, coke, water etc. Boiled water is provided all the way up and all you do is drink drink drink! The final day to EBC is tough. Lobuche to Gorak Shep took us all morning and we were all shattered on arrival. A quick lunch and we took another 3.5 hours to base camp. I think we were quite a slow group but be prepared. Another 2 plus hours back no-one had the motivation for a 4am start to climb Kala Patar the next day. Given the time the trek down took I think this was the right decision for us as a group. We had had a number of opportunities to view Everest as we had climbed up so didn't feel we were missing out on anything. The acclimatisation day from Dingboche and the return trek journey via the higher trail and Phortse are great, an opportunity to get away from the crowds for a couple of days and see the less 'commercialised' parts. The post trek couple of days in Kathmandu were a blessing to recharge by the pool with a cold beer. The included city tour was just right with visits to a couple of different attractions of our choice. All meals were included in Kathmandu which was a nice surprise.

Awesome experience, stunning scenery and great fun!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Quite simply this was the most amazing trip. The service from KE before departure was excellent, always someone with plenty of experience on hand to advise. All travel documentation was promptly provided. On arrival in country the team looked after us incredibly well prior to moving up to Lukla. From the very start of the trek we were expertly led through to Base Camp, with the individual needs of the group carefully considered at each stage. The lead sherpa was outstanding; energetic, great sen se of humor and genuinely wanted to enable us all to get the most from the trip. Where slight changes were necessary there was no fuss, just simple solutions. In terms of hints and tips I would suggest the following: 1. The accommodation is very basic after the first few nights, but nothing more than you should expect bearing in mind the altitude and that all supplies are moved up the mountain by porter or animal. Do not expect 4* hotels. Shared rooms, shared toilets, limited showers and basic food. This is a trek, not a "pampered darlings" expedition! 2. Wi-Fi is limited and does not always work. Do not expect it to do so! 3. Water is essential and having a minimum of 2 water bottles is essential. Personally, I used a camelbak to ensure I was sufficiently hydrated. 4. You will have to pay to re-charge phones/cameras etc. Take a charge bank and this will provide you with the flexibility to charge when you need to and reduce the cost of re-charging devices. 5. The distances on the trek summary are a guideline. Some days it may be a little more and some a little less. Be flexible in your approach. 6. Weigh your trek bag before you go and make sure it meets the criteria. Overall, this was a trip of a lifetime and truly exceeded my expectations. Nepal is a wonderful country, the Nepalese people genuinely friendly and the sherpas are fantastic. Thank you KE for making this all possible!

An amazing experience in a beautiful country
★ ★ ★ ★ ★

We were well looked after from the moment we got off the plane in Kathmandu; the trek is strenuous so if you're considering this trip I'd recommend a good level of training and preparation beforehand but the guides did a brilliant job of pacing the group and in the end everyone made it to the top of Kala Pattar and base camp. The hospitality extended to us by the Nepali people and by our guides in particular was incredible; this was a wonderful holiday that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Excellent Guides, mediocre food, poor Kathmandu team
★ ★ ★ ★
Our lead guides and his two support staff were absolutely great. The food at most lodges were mediocre at best. My dietary restrictions were not communicated to our guides. Your rep in Kathmandu was a poor communicator and not very knowledgeable. I would have appreciated, for hygiene sake if we were provided hot water to wash our hands before every meal. My pillow at Gorakshep was covered with blood. Overall I enjoyed the adventure thanks to constant help of our guides. I would recommend clearer guidelines about tipping our guides.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you found your guides and support staff to be absolutely great. KE groups are provided with hot water by the crew of Sherpas who trek with the group and we are sorry if this did not happen before every mealtime on your trip. We are glad that overall you enjoyed the adventure and the achievement of reaching Everest Base Camp.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp with KE was the best adventure I've ever had! Our guide, Milan, was very professional and would make sure any of the group who were struggling were looked after by himself or one of our Sherpa guides who spoke good English. Milan would watch you like a hawk for any signs of altitude sickness!! We always seemed to get the nicer tea houses too despite traveling during the busiest seasons of October and November. The only negative was the food: although it is conv enient to have all food included in the price of the trek, there is very little choice if your stomach can't handle large amounts of carbs and starch (unless you like rice and noodles for every meal, then It's great!). Overall, the scenery was amazing, the other trekkers in my group were all friendly like-minded people, the experience was life changing, and luckily I didn't get any altitude sickness so made it to both Base Camp and Kala Patthar - the hardest thing I've ever done, but so worth it!! Would travel with KE Adventure again.

Heaven on Earth

The trip to Everest Base Camp was in one word spectacular. My wife, in-laws and brother-in-law made the journey and we as a group of 6 along with 8 more had a fantastic time. The rapport in the group was amazing and the whole itinerary from Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp and back was well organised. The Nepalese guides and porters made this arduous trip that much easier. The flight to Lukla airport is mind boggling and certainly not for the faint hearted. Saying that, you would not be on this tr ip if you couldn’t face altitude with a little rise in adrenaline to help. Overall, we all enjoyed the camaraderie, the beautiful views of Nepal, the humbleness and politeness of the Nepalese people but above all this, the journey to Everest Base Camp. It must be said the night after trekking to Everest Base Camp was without a shadow of a doubt, the coldest we slept through in the lodges. Keep wrapped up. Thank you to KE Adventures for an once in a lifetime trip which we all thoroughly enjoyed. I would love to say more than I have written here from the precarious bridges, the Yaks, the yearning for a nice hot shower (and an even nicer toilet) but you focus on the positives and an open mind as for all the things we take for granted in the western world, one thing we cannot have is the journey to Everest Base Camp. To see Everest in all its might and glory at the end of a memorable and fun trek surpassed the times when a nice mocha back in England came to mind many a time. We look forward to Annapurna in 2017! Thank you again to the wonderful Nepalese people and KE Adventure team. We couldn’t have done this without your support.

I now would not travel to trek with any other company than KE.
My trip to Everest basecamp was an amazing experience. Yes some of the trekking was a bit of a slog but very much worth it to see some of the most beautiful views of the himalayas. Our sherpas were the most kind, considerate people I have ever met and it was an honor to be in their company and their country. Our group of trekkers were lovely and we still keep in touch via WhatsApp, nearly one year later! If you are buying kit
in Katmandu and you want kit that will last and well made then visit Shonas Alpine Store, Amrit Marg, Thamel. Buy only the kit that is hand made and if you explain what you are looking for they will show you what is appropriate for your journey. Pumpernikels cafe, in central Thamel, is a lovely place to meet up with others for coffee or lunch or cakes. Free wi-fi here for zapping back to the UK the amazing photos that you will take.
KEs organisation was very good and I am about to embark on my 2nd trip with them in a few weeks time. You could not pick a better company to travel with or a better, life changing, trip to go on.

Amazing Trip
★ ★ ★ ★ ★

After doing a lot of research into companies that provided treks to Everest Base Camp we eventually chose KE Adventure as it offered exactly what we were looking for in terms of services provided. The clincher was the fact that, whilst not the cheapest on the market, it did include all food and refreshments for the duration of the whole trip and not just the trek itself. In retrospect this was a great decision as it made it a lot easier for our guides but also saved us a lot of hassle t hat would have been involved in paying separately, sorting out bills, tipping etc. All this was dealt with by our excellent guides Bala and Tschiring. These guys were absolutely brilliant and could not do enough to ensure our trek was as comfortable, easy and enjoyable as possible. I could go on but suffice to say if you could find better guides than these guys I'd be very surprised. In terms of costs the whole trip was great value. The hotel we used in Kathmandu (The Yak and Yeti) was top quality and in a great location. We had a half day (which actually lasted 5 hours) tour of Kathmandu included and all transfers from and to the airport even though we had booked our own flights. We were on the same flights as another couple of people on the trek though they had booked flights via KE Adventure. Chatting to them it seemed as though they had got the flights cheaper than us so I'd advise you to check out this option and not, as I did , automatically assume you could get them cheaper. The trek itself was well paced and arrangements were sensibly flexible. As our group had acclimatised well we were able to reach Base Camp a day early and consequently have a more relaxed and enjoyable descent. We descended a slightly different way to the ascent which added to the variety of scenery. The section from Pherice to Phortse (done on the descent) was stunning. Facilities on the trek were good and accommodation variable. Conditions got more challenging the higher you went but that was part of the enjoyment. All in all an amazing trip. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering Everest Base Camp.

Glorious Trekking Experience.

Very well organized and led trip. Staff very attentive and nothing went awry. Great trekking companions. Wonderful experience. At times it was cold and hard going but it was well paced and we all were thoroughly acclimatized. Wonderful experience and happy to recommend.
Facilities became more basic and sparse the higher we got but that is part of the experience. Don't expect luxury. There were only 6 of us on the trip and I believe 16 is the maximum number. To me that sounds like quite a lot.
