Awesome holiday and a faultless experience with KE from start to finish.

Across the Julian Alps to Triglav

This was my first KE holiday and first experience of hut to hut trekking. My wife and I both had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this holiday to any seasoned hill walker. Prior to booking, we read all the info KE provided about the itenerary, kit list etc. and because of this felt extremely well prepared (note: pack toilet paper - not on the kit list but needed for the final hut!!) The Slovenian guides on the trek were also very helpful and knowledgeable and we were lucky enough to ... be trekking with a great bunch of people. Consequently we had an awesome time! If great mountain days, stunning scenery and summits that provide a sense of achievement are your thing, this holiday is highly recommended!

Incredible journey to the most beautiful mountains in the world

K2, Concordia and the Gondogoro La

The scenery in the Karakorams is simply awe-inspiring. There was a real sense of good feeling among our team; partly due to the incredible shared experience of being in such a magical place, but also largely owing to the wonderful treatment we received from our Pakistani hosts and from Tom's (our group leader) sense of humour. Tom's knowledge of the region is tremendous and he had stories of funny misadventures in nearly every mountain we passed. And there were a lot of mountains!
KE were ... brilliant at helping us all rearrange our flights (there was a coup in Turkey the day before most of us were due to fly out to Pakistan on Turkish Airlines). On the journey to Skardu, we had to find accommodation at the last minute in Gilgit (due to a delay as a result of a landslide on the KKH). KE, Tom and Baltistan Tours made sure we all had accommodation and I was very glad at that point that I was not trying to travel independently. The food throughout the trip was really superb. In the most trying conditions (on glaciers, in the middle of the night, after days without fresh supplies), the kitchen boys managed to produce heaps of delicious food.
This trip in Pakistan was the best holiday i have been on. The company was great and everything was organised so well. I would highly recommend this trip. The scenery really blew me away and I got so much more out of the trip by going with KE than I believe I could have done by going with another company given that the Karakorams is KE's specialist region.
I will be back next year!

An amazing experience

Treasures of Guatemala and Belize

Many, many highlights! From staring into the bubbling crater of Pacaya and eating by headtorch watching Fuego erupt in the distance to enjoying the sunset over Lake Atitlan after a great day canoeing and hiking - we knew this was going to be a special holiday after the first couple of days. Juan and Welber made an excellent pairing as guide and driver and their knowledge of Maya and other indiginous cultures was superb. Tikal is simply stunning and Juan brought it fully back to life as it ... truly is his passion. Caye Caulker and Crooked Tree are equally stunning.
TIPS: Take walking poles for Pacaya and walking boots not walking-style trainers - that lava dust gets everywhere!
Take US dollars for Belize (exchange rate fixed at 2:1 so everywhere accepts them)
You may have to try a couple of ATMs in Antigua to get Guatemalan quetzels - the banks will change dollars to quetzels but only $200 a day and it is quite time-comsuming as they have an issue with money laudering.

Spectacular, challenging & great fun!!!

Across the Julian Alps to Triglav

This was my second mountain trekking trip with KE and it was just as brilliant as the first one in the High Tatras, Carpthian Mountains, Poland. Typically well organised with amazing guides - Katia and Bugy - who were extremely competent and worked well as a team to ensure the well being and enjoyment of us all. The scenery varies from pine forest to exposed mountain paths to valleys covered in wild flowers - all jaw droppingly lovely with views to die for! We experienced all weather from sun ... (4 days) to rain (1 day) to snow (half a day), and note to self in future is to pack as lightly as possible and layer up for possibly cold nights high up in the huts. Walking poles are very helpful if, like me, you find descending steep scree covered paths tricky! The mountain hut food was tasty and sustaining. I was lucky enough to be in a group of great people, and we all had a fantastic time!!!

A true adventure - not another tourist in sight!

Heart of the Tien Shan

Since my childhood, I had always wanted to visit Kyrgyz nomads and see their way of life. I was not going to be satisfied by a sanitised trip, visiting a contrived nomad camp. So, I researched thoroughly, and chose this trip by KE Adventure. It truly lived up to my expectations. The exciting trek through the Tien Shan mountains was challenging for me, as I am now 60, but the support of our guides was always there and, with their help and encouragement, I crossed rivers in spate and climbed over ... passes up to 3900 meters. A great achievement for me! As for the flowers in the alpine meadows - better than those I have seen in the Alps and the Dolomites. We saw several nomad camps, and visited one where we were offered tea and food in their yurt. By this stage, I felt that the experience couldn't get any better. The whole holiday was perfect, with glimpses into nomadic life, interaction with the trekking crew and horsemen, marvellous and abundant food, both on trek and at the basecamps, camping sites by rushing rivers, with the stars bright above, camaraderie with like-minded fellow-trekkers, and the fact that we were in a beautiful, wild place without ever encountering another tourist. The helicopter trips were exciting, especially the longer trip down from the glacier basecamp. I felt that all geography was laid our before us - awe-inspiring and exhilarating!

Excellent tough trip.

Traverse the Jotunheimen - Private McKie

We booked our trip as a private group. Arrangements were seamless and all details both at home and in Norway were taken care of efficiently.
Our guide for the trip, Simon, was really good. A professional who quickly assessed the ability level of our group and set an appropriate pace.
He took care of our every need and I would highly recommend him. Simon felt more like a friend than a guide. A real asset to KE.
This is a physically demanding trip. We were all experienced mountain walkers who ... have undertaken several trips abroad however we all felt that this trip was slightly under rated in terms of difficulty.
There was nothing technical or difficult about this trip however the days and distances, particularly over rough terrain, were at times very long and tiring.
The quality of accommodation and food at all of the huts was probably the the best I have found abroad.
This is a great trip for experienced walkers. Plenty of variety, wonderful scenery and huge mountains.
Once again KE have put together a great itinerary.

A bit disappointing

Bernese Oberland Haute Route - West

This looked a hard trip for me but I had psyched myself up for it. However we missed the two long days in the middle and the ascent of the Wildhorn. This was due to poor weather and reluctance of other group members to follow the Guide's proposal to ascend to the first col and take a look. This might or might not have been successful but at least we would have tried. This level 8 holiday ended up as three less than 5 hour days, and no day over 950m. Otherwise huts were good, scenery fantastic ... and guide Kathy was excellent. So much depends on weather and who else is on the holiday.

Beyond our expectations

Best of the Tour du Mont Blanc

First and foremost, kudos to our guide Cedric, who made the trip completely memorable.we have gone on many guided tour but Cedric was truly one of the best, in his knowledge and history of almost everything mount blanc.
I would also like to give a shout out to the staff of the the Yeti lodge. They were attentive and efficient. Special note to Charlie, loved the food especially the salted caramel dessert!
All the lodges we had stayed in along the way was very good . Nothing to change ... here.
Will definitely recommend this tour to my friends.

Wonderful experience - great mix of activities

Sri Lanka Family Island Explorer

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sri Lanka tour and felt it provided a great mix of activities ( trekking, whitewater rafting, swimming, etc), culture (visiting ancient buddhist temples and through our excellent guide about the history of the island) and to cap it all a great fun group dynamic. Also the little personal touches, like playing a game of cricket with some locals, really made for a memorable experience .

Superb adventure!

Family Adventure in Cappadocia and Turkey’s Taurus Mountains

We had an absolutely fantastic holiday, starting just 3 weeks after the attempted coup. We felt completely safe and very well cared for at all times, and kept on saying to each other how much we would have missed out on had we cancelled as a result of the political situation. The UK government travel advice was sound - although there was no time when we felt we needed to be particularly vigilant. The local people we met were all very welcoming, and several thanked us for coming in these ... difficult times.

Our guide, Ibrahim, was absolutely superb, at times acting like a welcome third parent to our daughters, aged 10 and nearly 12. He knew the mountains, and paths in Kapadokya, really well and made the - at times challenging - walking really enjoyable. He picked up on the things we were interested in, arranging extra trips to accommodate these, such as visits to mosques and a carpet factory. We really enjoyed all our conversations with him, and felt we learnt a huge amount about the environment, culture and political situation of Turkey. He is an absolutely lovely person, as is the driver, Ahamed.

Highlights were horseriding, local (not touristy!) hamman, mountain trek, underground city - and pretty much everything! We were invited in for tea by shepherds on the mountains, who were very friendly - one gave my daughters rides on his donkey and made us some hiking sticks (which we managed to get home on the plane!) The cave hotel was awesome, and the campsites in stunning settings. The food was absolutely delicious, and we all enjoyed pretty much every meal.

If you've not travelled Turkish Airlines before, they are excellent - the seats were comfortable, staff friendly and entertainment system excellent for all ages. You might like to bring your own food though... and perhaps your own headphones.

It would be worth bringing hiking sticks if you have them for the rough mountain paths, and good walking boots are absolutely essential.

Have a great time if you decided to go on this holiday! We recommend it 100% if you like a bit of a physical challenge on holiday and are up for anything.

Great Trek

Traverse of Bolivia's Cordillera Real

My wife and I did the 20 day Traverse of the Cordillera Real in Bolivia and had a great time. The hiking was moderate with a lot of up & down through valleys and saddles, but not really hard. We had amazing mountain views. I would warn trekkers about the cold nights we encountered (of course when you are at 15,000 feet you should expect very cold nights). Definitely take a zero degree sleeping bag (and a liner) and a very warm down jacket & gloves. We slept with 2 baselayers, down jacket, ... hat and gloves and still were cold at night.
Our guide, Ricardo, was great; he kept a nice hiking pace, was very friendly and very knowledgeable, and solved most issues quickly. He also gave us Bolivian history lessons after dinner.
Two folks in our group (of 8) had tent/zipper issues that for some reason couldn't be completely resolved even with replacement tents. (An open tent door in freezing windy night temps can be a real issue...) Day hiking was in the 60s to 70sF, perfect for hiking. No rain, two days were windy, but not a real issue.
We visited the ruins of Tihunanaco and did several interesting things in and around Lake Titicaca to get used to the altitude. We also stayed a couple extra days in La Paz, which has several good museums and interesting areas to visit.
The food throughout the trek was very good.
All in all, this was an excellent trek with lots of great hiking and things to see.
