A very full package
Kerala and the Cardamom Hills
Let me start by writing that this was a super trip and that we enjoyed it. However, to help others I will comment that there were a few things we didn't expect. First, remember it's India. "Events" happen. Our trek itinerary had to be adjusted because there was a jeep driver strike and one of the planned overnight stops was inaccessible. No great problem, and the local agent dealt with it well, but slightly confusing. Second, it is a trip of two halves. The second half has a lot of road transfers. It may be that in the right conditions the transfers will be under 4 hours - but the right conditions don't always occur. We tended to find that we had a prompt departure from one hotel to arrive just in time for lunch at the next one. It feels like a lot of time in a bus. Lots to see as you go along, and some spectacular roads - but it's still quite a long time in a bus. Third, we did have one surprisingly cold night on the trek. No frost or snow or anything like that but everyone was wearing just aboiut every layer they could - this was in the first half of November, and just one night. Fourth, the trekking days didn't feel particularly demanding. I claim no expertise in assessing the grading but this felt fairly gentle. Finally, since the trip notes don't mention the leeches, I won't either. In summary, a super trip. If you are thinking about it, do it.

A beautiful surprise
Morocco - Ride the Kasbah

The first 3 days of cycling the landscape is at times breathtakingly wild and beautiful. The first three days are rather challenging. If you bike a local bike you have to make a deposit of at least 600 EUR So Have enough money on your credit card.

Spectacular vistas
Kangchenjunga Trek
I booked the Kanchenjunga trek tour at the recommendation of the UK tour leader for the Dolpo trek which I had done the previous year. Kanchenjunga exceeded all expectations. I've been eye level with glaciers before, but this time I got to stand on the edge of a sea of ice stretching as far as the eye could see. The forces of Nature were on full display, and it was evident no technology could ever tame them. Spectacular! The strenuous grading is very appropriate, but perhaps not for the rea sons you expect. At lower altitudes, the trail crossed multiple ridgelines. Our cumulative ascents and descents-- mostly on rough rock steps-- were huge. One day I measured 1400 meters cumulative up. At higher altitudes, the trail mostly followed river valleys. The gradients were modest, but we encountered numerous landslides. How shall I put this. Some required great care to cross safely. Fit hikers with prior Himalayan experience are sure to enjoy the beauty, variety, and challenges of this trek. Adventurous but less experienced hikers may want to warm up with another trek (Manaslu Circuit, for example), before contemplating Kanchenjunga. Several notes may be helpful: (a) I used the KE sleeping bag and down jacket. Both were in excellent condition and very warm. Highly recommended. (b) Leaving Laslya Bhanyang (Day 7 AM) it is necessary to skirt a massive landslide. See photo in my gallery. The makeshift uphill trail we used had fissures in it and was not for the faint of heart. The downhill trail was exceedingly steep. (c) For some reason, the brochure describes hiking the southern approach only as far as Ramche. You have no view from there whatsoever. The usual viewpoint is a Limbu shrine "Oktang" some two hours beyond Ramche. Ten of twelve in my party went as far as Oktang. It made for a very long day trip from Tseram (we did not arrive back in camp until dusk) but it was well, well worth the effort. Do ask your tour leader. Go for it if you can. (d) One more thing ... The guesthouse at Suketar airport has excellent tongba. Can't forget that!!

Disappointing, our expectations as outlined in dossier were not met
Kerala and the Cardamom Hills
Some really enjoyable places & experiences spoilt by too much time on the road travelling leaving some of the highlights including Periyar reserve & the backwater cruising either curtailed or feeling rushed. We went out 2 days before the group to Fort Cochin, in hindsight a "must" so there is time to relax after the flight & get into the mellow Kerala scene. Cardamom Hills offer some good relaxing walking with amazing sunrises & sunsets. However if you h ave some heavy rain as we had do not be surprised if you have a mini river running through your tent; we did. Don't get too excited about the beach R&R at the end of the trip. Safe swimming options in the warm Arabian Sea are limited, great if you find them but need to take great care with the steep beaches & strong undertow. Overall disappointed with the trip & would not recommend incurrent form.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. Your group was very unlucky as heavy rain in Kerala is extremely unusual at this time of the year. We have been running this trip for the last ten years and your experience is in stark contrast to the majority of reviews for this holiday. As you know from our private correspondence with you, we have been in touch with the whole group about their experience. We are pleased that despite the unseasonable weather and the disruption to your itinerary caused by the other factors beyond our control (e.g. wild elephants), you had some really enjoyable experiences with good relaxing walking.

Yet another fantastic KE adventure
Patagonia - The Classic Paine Circuit
It is difficult to add to the positive views expressed already by other people on this trip. In particular I would entirely endorse and re emphasise the comments made by Edward. Pam and I had a truly great time with the outstanding trekking being enhanced by a cohesive and friendly group and two simply outstanding leaders. The contributions of Danny and Francisco can not be overstated whether in relation to "normal" trekking issues or the perhaps more esoteric matters surrounding flora and fauna. Their knowledge was imparted in an incredibly enthusiastic and friendly manner....nothing was too much trouble. Any request was dealt with positively...."Why not.....it's Patagonia!!" A few of us did the extension to Fitzroy. As we sat at the edge of a flat calm lake looking at the Fitzroy massif under a clear blue sky we reflected that we were truly the lucky group. Unreservedly recommended

Superb biking in great surroundings
Morocco - Ride the Kasbah
For the 1st time on KE I used a local hire bike and am glad I did. The bike (Cannonade Trail 3 Hardtail) was perfect for me for this ride of mixed terrain and trails. Day 1 is the hardest of the days in terms of the ride challenge, with some good technical challenge riding in a river bed and long climbs, with rewarding descents (a little sketchy in places). Food and accommodation was also good throughout. The very 1st day is a transfer and that is a long day with transfer from Marrakech to that night's hotel taking 9 hours, leaving no time for said 'optional ride'....but through good and varied scenery. The final day's ride is a short ride (30km or so) through the Draa Valley. The ride itself offers little and is really just a break up of the day's long drive. Personally I would have preferred to use the time to explore Zagora and have a chill out morning, or to get back to Marrakech earlier, as that last day ride was not worth the effort. In summary - this trip is well organised and almost military in its execution by our guide, Hammed but you only get 4 days of decent riding out of it. Those 4 days were superb rides and each different from the previous day and all providing a great mix pf challenging hills to rewarding desserts, include a superb 10km descent. Day 5's ride was a little 'functional' and (in my view) served little more than to break up the long return to Marrakech.

A great experience
Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro Summit Ascents
The trek to Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro was an excellent trip. On Mt Meru, I particularly enjoyed the fact that it is like a hidden gem, visited by few tourists. Yet, the views were breathtaking and the climb in the middle of the night was just amazing. In our group, the briefings were extremely short and really, really basic. I dislike extended, boring "information meetings". But in our case, we were sometimes not informed about essential points like how short time we would spend on the s ummit (we were forced to leave Kili summit even before the first sun rays reached us). And it was easy to miss some points if you were not around when the leader was talking (like when is dinner, wake-up time etc). It was also a pity that there was no real "goodbye" with the group leader - he was suddenly gone. Also, there is improvement regarding food. On both summit days, we only got some cookies for "breakfast" before departure, Snickers for the summit and some juice when we returned. I also believe that chocolate bars and muffins are really not appropriate lunch packages for a trekking tour. On the other hand and as a big contrast, the cooked lunches and dinners were excellent. We always got delicious soup, vegetables and rice/ pasta/ potatoes that would give us strength. The cooks did an excellent job in this matter! Also, be prepared for heavy rain, even in the so-called "dry" season. However, this did not make the trip worse, it just added an adventurous touch. It was normal that the heaviest rain would stop over night and we started each morning with sunglasses and no clouds around. So should the forecast not be the best - don't worry, you'll have an amazing, unforgettable trip anyway! The tents were of excellent quality and did not leak in the heavy rain. This rating is about the KE trek organisation - the overall of the experience was definitely a five star!

Unforgettable journey through magical , ever changing landscapes
Patagonia - The Classic Paine Circuit
The Patagonia Paine circuit proved to be a richly rewarding , varied trekking experience full of interest and surprises. Our group did the 'o' circuit of the massif ,tackling the more remote northern arc before joining the 'w' southern route back to the start at the well appointed , extremely comfortable and innovative Eco Camp. The trekking was well graded and paced with a mixture of challenging and easier days. It would be a good idea for anyone interested in this trip to i nvest in a field guide and a good pair of Bins as there's such a wealth of animals, birds, flora and geological/geographic wonders to appreciate. In general we were blessed with more benign weather than anticipated, sparing us from the notorious Patagonian wind and rain. However conditions are very changeable and all trekkers benefit from a judicious use of a good layering system. You may really need to go from one layer to four in the space of half an hour! Danny , Our lead Guide on this trip, ably assisted by Francisco was absolutely outstanding, perhaps the best I've experienced in over a dozen treks worldwide. His knowledge , empathy and good humour enriched the whole experience. The transfers, porterage ,camps and hotels all worked seamlessly and we were fabulously nourished throughout. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to adventurous trekkers.

Another great adventure weekend with KE
Mount Teide Weekend - Tenerife

This is a great addition to KE's list of weekend adventures. Not as tough as the others so a great starter for anyone looking to give one of these trips a try. Cal the guide paced this perfectly considering the variation in experience of the group members. Fantastic food in the towns. The ascent was non-technical but still a challenge due to the altitude and the heat

Great Snowshoeing in a region new to me.
Queyras Snowshoe Winter Paradise

An excellent week of snowshoeing in the Queyras led by IML Emma Jack. Hotel Yak Avenir provided good accommodation with excellent food. With not a lot of snow at lower levels Emma had to find higher North facing slopes & cols to snowshoe to/on which she always managed to achieve. Indeed, she managed to exceed expectations with some memorable days in remote valleys with no one else in sight...brilliant!!!

scenic and challenging with great guide, assistant guide, and colleagues
Patagonia - The Classic Paine Circuit

The guide knew the environment extremely well, and kept us informed about the particulars of flora and fauna. They were concerned for our comfort and safety and gave great information and advice to make our trip pleasant. They kept us informed on the trip and were well organized to keep us on time from day to day. The camps were comfortable and the food was great.

An excellent adventure
Patagonia - The Classic Paine Circuit
This was a well organised trip controlled by a friendly local team. The guides, Danny and Francisco, were enthusiastic in sharing their knowledge of the history, geography and biodiversity of the area - although Francisco does need to work on his whistling and flute playing. The views were breathtaking and often unexpected, and the night skies were incredible. The first day of the trek is demanding as is the descent from the John Garner pass, but none of the group struggled and the route did not exceed 4000 ft altitude. The food was excellent as was the support by the porters and cooks. We were told that we were lucky with the weather conditions so that was just the icing on the cake (but we still saw all four seasons!). This is my first trip to South America and would not hesitate to recommend this trek to others.

Brilliant safari!
Botswana Wildside Lodge Safari

An excellent first time experience on a safari. One of the highlights is the Okavango delta two nights camping in the bush. Saw four of the five big animals. Accommodatiion excellent. Food prepared by the guides varied and good. Only downside was the long drive from Johannesburg (2x7hr days) but we knew this.

A Brilliant Trek
Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro Summit Ascents
The trip was amazing, the acclimatization at Meru certainly helps your chances of getting up at kili summit and more importantly makes it a lot more enjoyable. Onex and most of his assistant guides were really well trained and knew how to make the trek more informative and enjoyable. Some of the facts i wish i knew before i did the trek - 1. On the way to kili - stop at karibu supermarket at panone petrol station (it is right next to where ke adventure bus stops - has a much bigger supply of wha t you might need) 2. Summit time for both meru and kili - you will have limited time at both peaks, so pace your speed accordingly and coordinate well before in advance with your walk leader. 3. It is more of a handheld walk at kili than meru - for those reasons you might enjoy meru more. 4. Tips are broken down into two parts - 1st at end of Meru and 2nd at end of kili, so plan accordingly. Hope you have an amazing trek

A chance to do the impossible!!
Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro Summit Ascents
On January 2017 I took on the challenge of summiting both Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro. Not small feat by anyone, but more for me having disability it defiantly had the mission impossible theme tune running though my head. When I made initial contact with KE, one of their staff who had been on trek phoned me, getting to know me and maybe my fears about my suitability of the trip. In response I and the group gained an extra amazing guide with an added bonus for his liking of cheesy music. Mount Meru w as fantastic mountain with rugged landscape and green pastures which homes buffalo, Girraffes and Baboons. It's not just an acclimatisation trek for Kiliimanjaro but a perfect way to start a trekking holiday and a real hidden gem. Kilimanjaro is largest mountain in Africa and you trek through multiple vegetation zones. The experience of Meru will more than stand you in good stead for final summit accent along with good music and expert guides. As a person with a physical disability I couldn't have achieved what many seen as impossible without KE, their on ground tour company, guides and porters. Fantastic trip
