Overview

Nothing can prepare you for the immense wilderness that you will experience on this holiday. The reserves are wild and remote, with a mysterious beauty and unending sense of space. Our small group of 8 will travel in our open sided safari vehicle to three of the most remote parks and game reserves in Africa. Throughout this African adventure we wild camp in the unfenced reserves. We start in the far south of Botswana at the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which is almost as large as Switzerland, and one of the few parks that straddles national borders. The entire park is completely unfenced, allowing wildlife to move freely along the ancient migration routes so necessary for their survival in the desert. We then move north travelling over the sandy tracks of Khutse Game Reserve until we reach the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the second largest wildlife reserve in the world. You will not be disappointed. This legendary desert is incredible and offers a world-class safari experience. It is likely that we will see many of the big cats including the black-maned lion, cheetah and hopefully the more elusive leopard. Giraffe, wildebeest and several species of antelope will be grazing on the grasses. Bird life is also prolific, including raptors such as kites and kestrels. Our holiday ends with a visit to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary to learn about Rhino conservatory before we head back to Johannesburg and home. With photographic opportunities in abundance and a serious expedition style adventure this is truly a holiday to savour.

This holiday is for travellers looking to visit new and exciting destinations. This is not a set tour, it is an exploration. An adventure like this requires flexibility, and an appreciation of the open style of travel. Much time is spent driving in the 4WD vehicle. It is possible we may face difficulties and delays, but the payoff will be experiencing a truly unique African journey - a real antidote to the modern world.

We will be wild camping in unfenced parks and game reserves. This means that wildlife could visit our campsite during the night. It is a very special and humbling experience. It is unlikely that any danger is incurred if we follow the instructions of our guide and ensure that we do not have food or snacks in our tents. The stars and the noise of the frogs at night is completely awe-inspiring and one that you will never forget.

An essential part of this holiday is participation – from putting up your tent or packing away in the morning, to helping with meal preparation and cleaning up – it’s all part of your adventure and when everyone puts in a little effort the trip will run smoothly. Your tour leader will do all the meal planning and food shopping however all participants will need to help with food preparation and washing up. At border crossings, the expedition leader will need help from the participants in queuing for paperwork etc. In the unlikely event of a vehicle breakdown (such as flat tyre), or the more likely event of vehicle becoming stuck in mud or sand, everyone will need to help solve the problem and get the group out of the situation. Team spirit is part of the fun.

There are several days in the 4WD vehicle, this gives us the opportunity to get into remote parts of these massive parks.

You travel with an experienced guide, and a maximum of 8 clients, in a 4WD vehicle, to explore these remote places.

Why KE?

This unique safari takes just 8 special clients on a 2 week adventure to some remote and truly wild game reserves. This is a real expedition and is perfect for hardy adventurers who are happy to get stuck in and help out should the vehicle gets stuck in the sand, or a tyre needs changing! Team work is part of the fun. Just imagine yourself off-grid, beneath vast African skies, surrounded by red sand dunes, dry river-beds and some of the most extraordinary wildlife in Africa.
