“Unquestionably the best Patagonia trekking itinerary available” - Chris Martin

For a destination where the superlatives never quite do it justice, we’ve turned to KE traveller Chris to explain what it’s like to experience the legendary landscapes of Patagonia.

Patagonia... the mere mention of the fabled land conjures up images of its granite towers, spires across the skyline and of course, its notorious wind and weather. It’s a wild and wonderful place and a trek there provides a mind-blowing visual feast.

For the mountain connoisseur it’s a must do before they hang up their trekking boots. Days are relatively long and there are a couple of days with ascent profiles well in excess of 1,000m. For the most part the trails are well defined but
Patagonian trekking is no push over. The hardest days would be the days up to the base of the Torres Del Paine and the day up the French Valley and across to Los Cuernos.

Patagonia is a veritable “Garden of Eden”. It has unique flora, fauna and a geological history fascinating in every respect. Glaciers continue to shape this wild, remote place. World-class guiding provided a phenomenal interpretation of what is going on around you and how it came to pass. We came to see the fabled mountains but left with a love for Patagonia that only comes from time spent with unique local experts.

A trip to Patagonia is one of life’s greatest treats. It’s not cheap and it’s a very long way to travel. For many it only comes at a time in our lives when we’ve perhaps got a little more time and cash. But do it, and take a little extra time to explore Buenos Aires – it adds to your experience and costs very little extra.

My only regret now is that it’ll be incredibly difficult to ever find a trip that will surpass this one for its beauty and sheer grandeur. Just top class adventure travel in my view.
