'Rapa Nui' - Easter Island Active

Highlights

Easter Island, known as Rapa Nui to its native inhabitants, is a vast National Park filled with diverse archaeological treasures. The island is famed for its iconic "moai" statues—towering stone heads that serve as enduring remnants of its rich and ancient culture. This heritage continues to thrive through the island’s vibrant traditions and rituals.

During this program, you'll explore Rano Raraku, the island's most renowned site where many of the moai were skilfully carved. You'll marvel at the stunning petroglyphs of Orongo, trek up Maunga Terevaka—the highest volcano on Rapa Nui—and venture into two captivating caves that showcase the island's unique history and natural beauty.

We will then transfer by vehicle to the old sheepfold of Fundo Vai Tea, where our hike to the top of Maunga Terevaka, the highest volcano on the island, will begin. We will need to ascend approximately 500 meters to have a spectacular 360Âş view of the island. After enjoying this exceptional sight, we'll descend either to Ahu Akivi or Vai Tea, and return to the hotel.

After breakfast you will be picked you up from your hotel to explore two fascinating caves on the stunning Easter Island. We'll drive to the entrance of the path to Ana Te Pahu, where our journey begins. We'll hike to the cave, also known as the "Cave of the Bananas" due to the plantations found inside. This cave is an example of a volcanic gallery that was used as a dwelling in ancient times.

Continuing our exploration, we'll walk to Ana Kakenga Cave, also called the "Cave of the 2 Windows." Here, we'll enter through an entrance less than 60 cm in diameter and, with agility, flashlights, and caution, we'll navigate through rocks and slippery floors to reach the bottom, where we'll witness the light inviting us to gaze at the cliff through these natural "windows." After this unique experience, we'll head to the Vai a Mei area, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to our respective hotels, carrying with us memories of these impressive caves and the beauty of Easter Island.

Service type: Private
Duration: Approx 4 hours

We will visit the ceremonial site and village of Orongo, consisting of 53 houses with unique designs on the island. This site also features a large concentration of petroglyphs. Next, we transfer to Vinapu, where one of the ahu resembles the carving of its stones to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Finally, we will visit Hanga Piko cove, where we can appreciate the Ahu Riata next to the fishermen's port. Once the tour is complete, we will take you back to your hotel.
